Discussion Thread #4 - What is your favourite biome to create for?

My favorite biome is the Temperate one since it fits where I reside and I prefer the warm grey color of the temperate rocks and stone terrain. I also like having the four seasons displayed, so the Temperate biome fits in with my overall zoo aesthetic. I truly hope that we will see more "less exotic" temperate species in the future.

Hayo Zookeepers,

Time for another discussion topic! Last month was really useful for me in particular, and I’m excited to use all of your tips when I get stuck back into Planet Zoo. Plus, I’m sure there are lots of others here who will find them useful too!

Before we get started, as always, remember that this is a place for us to all enjoy chatting as a community. Please do keep in mind that these threads have set topics and refrain from discussions outside of that or they will be removed by the moderators – but don’t fret! We’ll still be keeping an eye on the rest of the forums for your feedback, suggestions, creations, and more!

So, without further ado:

What is your favourite biome to create for, and why?
Temperature and tropical are my favorite!

Also temperate here (when I look at my zoos).
But I love desert and taiga also.
Tundra is beautiful , but I mostly like that in wintertime..don't know really why i didn't work at a winterzoo during the summer.
I didn't use tropical that much yet. Maybe because I know I will end with a jungle ( a lot of voliage ) and in that case my zoo always must be a very small one to limit the lacks in my pc.

Personally, I'm gonna go temperate. The green grass is fairly "basic," but it allows for a lot of flexibility.

Plus: It's the biome that best represents where I'm from so I can build for it a bit easier than some of the others. Hah.

A mix, really. But if I had to pick one, I'd say temperate because of its versatility and because it's perfect for an European zoo setting, which is what I'm used to. Tropical is also good but in order to make it somewhat realistic you have to go nuts with foliage, which can end up being quite time-consuming.

tropical north america for me for the landscape of the mountains (off map) there is also the texture of the grass but the sand is too dark. It remains the most adapted biome for the parks with several regions

It would be nice to see the customization and I think of the Australian rock which would bring a considerable decrease of rocks on the game

I particularly like the Temperate biome, mainly because I find it quite versatile in terms of the variety of animals which can live comfortably in that climate without getting too hot or cold.

I also like to have a sort of in-universe backstory that most of the zoos I create are based in the UK (where I live), and the temperate biome seems like the closest to that in my opinion.

I've done most zoos in Temperate. Many zoos in Grassland, and some zoos in Desert.

But one that I've recently come to love is Taiga. It has great summers and winters, good range of temperatures, and I like that it's more of a challenge than Temperate.

The biome maps that I hate are Tropical and Tundra. I really dislike all the rain in Tropical, the blizzards in Tundra, and the extreme heat and cold. The extreme heat is also present in Desert, which makes that biome a challenge, but at least there's no rain to obscure your vision.

I must say I really love lush green of tropical biome for the most 😍 but I miss more large trees in it a lot. Also i would love to see the tool making it possible to plant more trees at once from one biome.
Tropical animals are the most amazing for me so I nearly always build in tropical biomes coz they look the best in those.
I like temperate to but It’s far away from my love to the tropical greenery.
Desert map from African pack is the one that I really like to use a lot.

Pondering further about that question, I think, I'd go for this order:

1.Tropical (monsoons, lush green grass and nice, brown soil)
2.Taiga (I like the bright, limegreen grass and the biome invites me to build in a more rustical style)
3.Tundra (definitely a challenge, but I love the snow and reddish, withered grass)
4.Temperate (compromise between all choices above)
5.Desert (biggest sandbox in the word x))
6. Grassland (I have only one grassland zoo and I built it just to have all biomes complete. I don't like it after all. The terrain brushes are all too yellowish, no matter if it's grass, sand, soil or even rocks)

Temperate for the temperatures/weather, taiga for the scenery/ambiance.

One thing I have been clamoring for that I think would make the game much better, is if we had all of the custom terrain/background maps from the campaign and timed challenge modes available as sandbox. Also, the ability to pick the map background for each zoo, so you could use the island background from the Japan campaign map to make any biome an island zoo, and so on.

I love the tropical and temperate biom are my favorites because of the textures. Tropical sand is a bit grey but has the most beautiful gras and soil texures. Tundra and Taiga are the most beautiful stone textures. A custom build combination would be great :)

I’m going to start by respectfully suggesting that it would have been appropriate to start this thread with words along the lines of “we know you are all excited to get more news and updates but in the meantime…” Without that acknowledgment of where the community is at the moment this whole thread comes across as being pretty tone deaf and frankly insensitive.

I appreciate that this isn’t necessarily the fault of the CMs but rather their Frontier corporate overlords but I couldn’t join in a chirpy conversation about biomes without giving this feedback on the present situation.

Back on topic I would say that I prefer temperate as that is the most versatile biome with basic green grass, brown soil.

I also love the mulchy forest floor style tropical texture.

However I find the temperate map background a bit overbearing - I can’t really make a realistic Dutch zoo ( not in North or South Holland anyway) with those hills in the background and you can’t make a snowy zoo because the snow just melts when it stops falling… And the tropical background is beautifully done but not realistic to anywhere I’d ever build a zoo.

So yes, I’m really hoping one day to be able to manually control temperature in sandbox, have less intrusive (they are beautiful but not suitable for every location) backgrounds and most of all, be able to select our own palate of biome textures.

Taiga biome is my go-to biome. After all, Northern California and Oregon, and Washington are Taiga. I would love to see some more biomes that would fit North America.

I have always put zoos in the temperate biome so far. It's the setting that I know best. For the decoration of the zoo, the plants that also grow outside the front door fit. I also like the surroundings with the hills.
