Disquieting thoughts about the Frontier Store

I do think that TenCent probably had something to do with the revamp of store and ARX. Even if it was led by FD as a part of a wider proposal to secure investment and a vital partner in gaining access to the Asian markets. It would be the kind of thing an investor like TenCent would look for.

No problem with FD monetising ED more successfully, I just think their marketing and communications in general are awful and the incoming ARX system doesn't simplify anything (one of the 'supposed' key reasons for this move), quite the opposite.

It's also fairly obvious to anyone who has any knowledge of the industry that this is a way of increasing revenue by forcing the customer to "over purchase" the ARX currency with the "ARX packs"...you want one skin, ok pay the cost for 5 skins and keep the change in ARX which you can only spend on this store. The fact that FD withheld the ARX cost of their cosmetic items in the announcement also suggests they probably have something to hide....we will know very soon.

well, the only real irk in all this arx thing are the asinine arx package offerings. it's all just streamlining of the interface and accessibility, but then there are these clearly manipulative, cheap tactics to influence purchase and maximize income. it would have been much more in frontier's 'soft' style to simply put a price tag on arx and be done with it, or at least have a less moronic offer. hope the benefits by this specific change pay off the loss in prestige (they still had).

it does show, imo, at least metaphorically, how the vision has morphed into a cash cow. not that that's a novelty, but now it's even got the appropriate looks.
This logic is pretty thoroughly flawed if you consider that PS4 and Xbox have had Frontier Points for years now, so calling this a "change" is simply nonsense. They've aligned the three platforms, broken up cosmetic packs, given bonus points for purchases, and added a mechanic to gain as you play.

I'm pretty sick of having to explain the numbers and honestly, I doubt anyone so determined to whine about this is going to care about the reality of things. Their mind was made up when they heard about it, not when they heard the details.

That's a pretty specific set of criteria, which also gives you plenty of wriggle-room to argue over whether or not the microtransactions in a particular game can be classified as "P2W" or not.

The most obvious example would probably be Fortnite, although it seems that almost every PC game TenCent invests in either relies on the "freemium" model, or has microtransactions of some kind - in addition to their core mobile-gaming business, which is exclusively "freemium" games.

Where TenCent goes, microtransactions go too. 🤷‍♂️
Except ED has had microtransactions way, way longer than TenCent was even part of the picture? Or are you trying to say that they influenced FDev back in time? Or was the thing you said just raw nonsense? 🤷‍♂️

you could have avoided yourself all the trouble and bile just by reading my first sentence a bit more carefully :)
i'll quote it for you:

see, there was really no need for you to explain anything, nor to repeat what i have said with different words, much less get sick. hope you feel better now! 🥰
