Distant stars and EDDiscovery

I love going out in deep space and i have been in many different expeditions.

Over 2 years ago i started to write EDDiscovery (called EDD) to enhance my deep space journey and now we are a team with several people helping develop it.

Playing ED with a player tool can enhance your trip and make it even more fun. I recommend that everyone runs at least one of EDDiscovery, EDMC or Captains log.

EDDiscovery will use the journal log that ED creates and it has lots of information. On the screenshot aboive you can see part of my travel to Maia. Info about object i scanned jumps and so on.

Om bottom of the screen you find 3 different panels (Scan stars and Log) for me now. If you press on the title menu you can change between some different panels to show different information. You can also open them as separate window (and some more types) if you press the S-Panel button up at top right.

Every time you scan a object with a detailed surface scanner ED will generate a detailed log in journal with lots of info for the Star/planet/moon. EDD will also send all scans to EDDN so other sites lite EDSM and EDDB can collect that info.

The scan panel will use scan info to build a system panel of "known" bodies. Its fun to se ibjects appear then i scan them one by one.
The Scan panel can also get object information from EDSM if other people have scanned in the system and sent it to EDDN wi EDDiscovery EDMC or some other tool.
If the EDSM button is selected the scan panel will get object data from EDSM also. On the screenshot above you see some name with an underscore. Its objects EDSM knows about but i have not scanned them yet...

The statistic panel can show you some fun statistics too while you are out on a deep space journey. Travel tab shows you some information about jump distance traveled and so on.

Scan tab shows statistics about different types you have found.

This week i made a "Exploration" panel (open at S-Panel button) that may make your exploring a little more fun.
Add some stars to it and it will show if it has coordinates (from another player visit) Distance from current position and number of visits you made. It also shows number of scans you have made in the systems. Type of the main star and info field shows if you find something special like Waterworld Earth like neutron star...
I want to visit most of the stars in M67 and this can help me know the stars i have visited.
I made a list of the known stars in M67. Press Load and it will show a list of 220 stars and then keep track of your progress on exploring them.

Exploration panel can also be used like a todo list for you like if you see some object you want to visit later. Add it to the list and you can remember it :)

Other fun thing is the 2D and 3D maps that can show your travel path.

Hopefully this can make your Distant stars journey even more fun.

See you in M67!

You should probably copy this and paste it over the (now very out of date) first post on the main EDD thread too..

This program just keeps getting better and better (I have been using it for well over a year now), I am really impressed with it and have not even scratched at the surface of it's capabilities.

Yup, been using it since I got to Sag A* nearly 2 years ago, amazing little program, and the updates have been amazing!
