Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

I'm wondering if we should have some armed vessels on this trip? We don't know whats going to be out there in Horizons. D. Braben has hinted at 'exotic' things out way beyond frontier borders.

And "content related to Thargoids"

I will mess around with rigging a Conda and see if I can maintain weapons and a ~35ly jump range.

Not sure we'll be able to get enough range out of armed Asps, + SRVs. Condas, sure..

That's what I was thinking. It could be difficult to squeeze 34 LYs out of an Asp that has shields and weapons, and also a payload of SRVs.

I know SRVs are going to be 4 tonnes each, and for a 150,000 LY round trip we will be wise to carry more than one each (depending on how robust they are).

Choices choices (its great to finally have to make them!)

Shame multicrew is some time off yet as you could have loaded up some transport ships to carry some for others. (I think multicrew would be needed to be able to give one to another player)

HEAVY BREATHING....

An expedition to the edge of the galaxy and beyond the abyss, lead by one of ED's most experienced explorers, who can resist such an adventure?

I cannot.

Count me in, who knows maybe we'll send pictures from Raxxla surface-side.

To boldly go where almost no man has gone before.

Edit: Call dips on Raxxla.
^^^ What he said It's one of the parts of the galaxy I've not been yet, so count me it!

Thing is we don't know how much mass the Horizons PLS & SRV add to the ship, so it's hard to say how much it will affect jump range until we get the figures during beta.
Assuming the mass gain is marginal, I'll see about carrying some weapons and shields if I can.
<Anaconda build removed... Macros' is better>

Anaconda, not sure of range yet but over 34LY

In my opinion we should specialize. We should have some ships focused for defence, and should be armed. They don't need to carry SRV, another CMDR can probably jettison an SRV they can scoop before landing. Also a group should have fuel limpets. Some other CMDR can carry multiple SRVs to distribute/substitute. Every ship should have a max jump range of 35, and we should distribute all the needed items between the fleet.

That will be the next expedition, a tour of the galaxy aboard a passenger ship for players who just want to sit back and let someone else do the traveling.

We could stop off at points of interest along the way, and depending on how it works, each have a fighter to go do some local exploring in, before heading back to the mothership. There's a lot of potential there for emergent gameplay if FD allow it.

Sounds like this will need a logistics officer. Are you volunteering Akira? :)

I had similar thoughts, though I'm not sure if we'll be able to share SRV's any more than we can currently share ships - did FD say anything on this topic? Because being able to share SRV's would open up a lot of interesting gameplay possibilites for explorers..

If we can transfer SRVs by jettisoning and scooping, I've got someone willing to fly out to the Roncevaux Crossing and hold on to excess SRVs while players cross the Abyss. Depends on if that is even possible in Horizons though - I did ask Michael Brookes about it a while ago but he never replied, so maybe not in the initial release.

Fuel limpets would be a good idea too.

There are a host of new ships coming to beta next week, maybe some of the new ones will be suited to a journey like this with the logistics needed.

Some people (like me ) may need help with building a ship to do that.

I'm currently heading for SagA* in a stripped down Asp - 5A FSD, advanced and detailed scanner, 6A (IIRC) fuel scoop and everything else is bare minimum - even things like the power plant is the smallest that could fit on the ship (3D I think it was) and even then the max jump range was 34.xx LY.

Was just going to suggest inviting one or more of the Fuel Rats...
