Distant Worlds - A journey beyond the Abyss

While this expedition is flexible in nature, I'm not sure what the appeal is for racing ahead? The whole idea of DW is for it to be a major social event, flying with dozens of fellow players, meeting them at designated places and designated times.

There's so much to see between waypoints, there's no need to race to the next one (unless of course your time is limited and you need to plan ahead!) :)

Just save some stuff for the rest of us to discover :p

Im having the Social Aspect mostly on TS and the Waypoints (i go to them for a view hours and then move on. i dont get why you'd want ppl to return there after a view days before going to the next waypoint)
I mean im not gone Explore a route thats A already completely/moslty explored with 800 ppl doing the same thing.
I wanna fine my own route that follows the waypoints. im sure alot of ppl like that.
and i'm/were not really racing.. i mean i just played all weekend and i just have a 34LY(Laden) jump range.

In that sence i prefered the DW before it came all those roles and preperation into it that its more like a Guided Tour(sorry unGuided because we dont want to have leaders).
Say what you want but if you look at everything you've done for this thread;
1- if you prep it that much (scouting ahead for stuff like Jumponium needed, this thread have the group like with Skype or add other communication ways to this thread and all)
2- have multiple roles some of which have maybe 1% chance of being usefull
3- have interviews about this Expedition (gathering more attention to something that was already much bigger that originally planned out to be).
4- would prefer if we stay relatively close together (i asume you mean like an actual Fleet).
Can you blame ppl for looking at this like a (un)Guided tour group and considering how much came from you and Kaii they see you as leaders even tho you don't want that responsibility?
We even have ppl who never explored before, ppl who fly ships that will need alot of Jumponium just to get to beagle point. and it would be awesome to see that they make it but if cant see this as it bw

so yea, this is my opinion of it all so far.
I still want to tag along an meet up with ppl sometimes but i don't want to do it completely the way you guys ended up organizing it.

And As for communication ways (mostly repeat of whats already been answered but its part of my opinion. so feel free to skip over this).
i still don't understand whats the point of Skype and therefor i left the skype group as it was only limited to 300 ppl anyways.
Also having to type something for Social aspect actually just distracts from the game therefor i see Voicecoms AKA Teamspeak or Discord, as a much prefered option.. also alows you to get to know the ppl you explore with.
i understand some ppl not liking to have to talk i dont see how you could communicate in games without it unless like i said its gone be distracting from the game itself.
and for Announcements we now have idk how many threads on the forum + you guys could send Emails.

I hope you guys will Enjoy this Expedition as much as i do but i also hope you understand that some ppl don't completely like what its turned into. :3

Offtopic:
Took a break from the Expedition for halve a day today to visit my partially adopted Tiger (she got into a fight with her sister :/ and they had to be seperated for the moment)

Before Beagle Point... another edge of our galaxy... 1,590ly above the galactic plane floats this tiny rock, which I'm about to land on, where I'm about to drink some late coffee before going to bed with the most amazing view. Plain pure blackness over my head, I can barely make out a dozen stars or so ; while the reassuring presence of all these bright dots calls for my return into more friendly spaces... Elite: Dangerous, you are worth every penny. This, here, makes me feel like I'm in a special place. I feel like I'm on the edge of infinity. One. Small. Step. Away.

Like I said, its flexible. It can't work any other way due to all sorts of factors that you're probably not even aware of. There are no leaders in the traditional sense - players barking out orders and expecting folks to fall in line - I wouldn't want to be part of such a thing. There is a hell of a lot of work gone into making this something that needs minimal leadership and instead something more akin to guidance - with players encouraged to use everything the volunteers have put in place for them to get the best experience they can from DW. That approach has probably been one of its biggest appeals.

So obviously no one is saying players can't race through the waypoints - its their journey, not ours. My point was simple; they may miss out on some of the unique social aspects of what DW will be remembered for. But its not a big deal - get over it. Go solo to Beagle Point and send us a post card next week for all I care.

Glad you're having fun!

Black holes are actually quite harmless. Out of super cruise you can fly right through one. (Although most simply bounce you off a boundary limit)
Yet I tried to do some nice look back shots while leaving a 4g planet and ended up paying 10 million in insurance costs... The camera is a bit inconsistent in when it keeps your thrust setting. You keep going in an srv yet in the ship it tends to cut thrust to zero for me. Not good when you're leaving a high g planet.

I beg to differ on the harmless part...

How do I join this? I sent group request to thread starter and that Kaze-something guy ppl were referring to in this thread. What's the odds to get an invite?

The main private group is closed now.

You need to sign up here : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=209331

A new roster is likely to be set up shortly and a separate private group to go with it too. Will have more info on that linked thread in a couple of days.

STAGE 2 MAP : Crossing the Norma Expanse

Erm... that isn't the Norma Arm. It's the Crux-Scutum Arm. What you have labelled: 'The Near 3 kiloparsec Arm' is the Norma Arm:

Truly fabulous work by the way. Although personally I'm not taking part in your adventure, because when exploring deep space I don't like anyone to know my intinerary, especially the knowledge of when and where I'm likely to return to the Bubble, in case of an unwanted welcoming party wrecking my months of exploration data; there have been precedents of pranksters preying on returning explorers who naïvely announced their return beforehand with great public fanfare on the forums. Something to bear in mind when you start to think about returning. Good luck.

I've got several galaxy maps that say otherwise :p It seems that there isn't a set convention with some of the spiral arm names for certain galactic locations, some have it the way its labeled on the game maps, some have it labeled as on the one you linked. Thanks for the kind words :) Most of the DW fleet are in a dedicated private group so returning to the bubble shouldn't be too much of an issue - unless they run into a bunch of hostile NPCs out for explorer blood. Good luck on your own trip.

Almost at way point 2, but thought I would share the almost journey ending screenshot from BLU THU A AX-Z B29-0. A Trinary star system were the stars orbit so close that I nearly exploded from over heating just jumping into the system.

Yes the jump point is in between the two sun shown here.

I have been streaming almost every all the time I have been ingame since the expedition started:) And will continue to do so especially when landing on planets:)

New to it though and still have alot of tweaking to do on the stream itself:)

I want to add my penny's worth to the discussion here: I am immensely enjoying the feeling of being part of a co-operative venture. There is something satisfying in knowing that a rag-tag fleet of Commanders is progressing across the galaxy via set way-points and that every so often we all seem to meet up only to disperse again. I love the freedom and the structure which seems to be encouraged here. The departure from Pallaeni and then arrival at Laika's Rest was something that I will always remember - and now I am deep enroute to the next way-point. Every so often I dip into the Galaxy Map and see the little green icons of other Commanders strung out across the Galaxy like a scattered wagon-train.

This DW expedition combines the best of both worlds in that it encourages new explorers with support and comradeship while also not prohibiting their desire to strike out and discover new routes.

It reminds me of both the old westerns and the old anarchic comedies where various characters attempted to race to Monte Carlo or somewhere similar - I am afraid I am more the Terry Thomas type, though.

Yeah I am definitly having fun at the waypoints so far and will go both my own way and check out some known land marks between the wps. Then when I get to the next wp it time for the next planetside party with all the other explorers present:)
