Distant Worlds - A pre-launch thank you to all who helped...

We want to thank everyone who stepped in and helped Dr Kaii and myself propel this initial idea into something far beyond anything anyone imagined.

What was supposed to be a couple of pilots winging up and traveling across the galaxy together, has grown exponentially in to what is now believed to be the largest ever fleet in Elite Dangerous history, attempting to cross one of the largest ever gameworlds in gaming history. A unique set of circumstances and timing, and a lot of hard work from many different players, has made this possible. Its hard to imagine something like this happening on this scale and time frame again, but lets hope its just the beginning!

Since November, over 800 players have signed up for this expedition. We're expecting more will continue signing up over the coming days despite the closing of official registration now. Any players that missed the final deadline are obviously still welcome to come, but they will have to conduct the expedition in open play or in their own private groups. Any latecomers that make it to Beagle Point in April and post screenshot proof of their participation will retrospectively be added to the official fleet roster once the expedition is over. The roster is to be archived for posterity.

I'm confident this event will be talked about within the Elite Dangerous exploration community for years to come, and some of the places we'll be visiting - the 23 waypoints - will become famous exploration landmarks, part of the Elite Dangerous community created history.

The following people have made this possible :

Special thanks to the following :

And Walt Kermin on behalf of the Pioneers Coopertive for inviting the DW fleet into the Colonization Competition.

And finally, Ed Lewis (Frontier Developments).

Now that official sign ups are over please don't PM any of the organizers requesting access to the roster, fleet comms, or amendments to your pilot details. The time for that has passed. Admins and organizers now deserve time to relax and prepare for their own journey beyond the Abyss.

The final few fleet comm requests for those on the roster are being worked on and should be sorted before launch day.

Its been a crazy final week trying to get everything wrapped up in time, but they did it!

Finally, all fleet members should subscribe/bookmark the Announcements Thread as that's where all key info regarding the expedition will be posted first.

Obsidian Ants Distant Worlds Video... enjoy... see you at Pallaeni!.

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to organize such an interresting event and massive amount of people. I can't even imagine how your inboxes and mailboxes must have looked like during the last weeks.

I was just wondering, Erimus, if you can organize this and get us all to Beagle Point, could you also fix the servers?
Oh, and thank you :)

Excellent works to all those names. I salute you o7

You Brave Explorers, the ones who fly into the wake of giants, yet blaze your own trails.
Who seek to explore distant worlds, not for profit, but in the pursuit of knowledge.
You who await launch at Brook's Point, Pallaeni, knowing many will fall undertaking such an endeavour.
Yet take off regardless, with hope in your heart in spite of the dangers before you.
You Brave Explorers, I salute you o7, each and every one.
May the journey seem swift, with scoopables at every jump.
And may you all find Beagles Point, or fail courageously trying.
You Brave Explorers.

Time for John Masefield again:

Sea Fever

I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

-----------------------------

I am really looking forward to this. Excitement is building up and I already know I shall return a wiser and happier man :D

Godspeed and see you in space!
Andrew
