[Distant Worlds] - A Rather Uncommon Flotilla

The Distant Worlds expedition is proving hugely enjoyable as I trail after the bulk of the CMDRs in my Type 6, the ‘Apostata 3’. It has at best a 25 LY jump range with full fuel tanks.

One of the many things which has struck me at Pallaeni and Laika’s Rest is the sheer amount of Asp Explorers buzzing about. It made me feel a little lonely in the old Type 6 – so on a whim, I checked the main fleet list here and discovered maybe half a dozen other CMDRs flying the Type 6.

Then an idea hit me - so here it is:

This is a shout out to the few other Type 6 CMDRs out here in the Distant Worlds expedition. Let’s form a wing within the expedition and fly our ships with pride as we work our way out to Beagle’s Point. What I suggest is that we all friend each other and arrange to arrive at each way-point together. It would be amazing to land as a flotilla among all the other ship types. So if you are a fellow pilot hauling on the throttle and joystick of a battered old Type 6, how about winging along with another?

Anyone reading this and who flies the Type 6, PM me and we can friend up in-game.

I decided I didn't like being just another Asp in a sea of Asps and went back and picked up a Type-6 myself. I have a soft spot for the Type-6 anyway because I feel like it was my first "real" ship. So, the roster says I'm in an Asp, but I'm not. I'm in a Type-6 now and heading to catch up with the fleet. I suggested a Transport wing over in the Flagship thread. Maybe we can all meet up.

Another T6 pilot here...I'll admit to wanting an Asp, but couldn't afford it - but I've grown to love my space-brick, the view from the cockpit is awesome, some get freaked out by all that glass, but not me

The Loon squad?! I like it - there is something mad and brave and dedicated about flying the Type 6 among all these shiny Asps and Anacondas. Personally, I have dedicated much of my exploring in the Diamondback, the Adder, and the Asp Scout - but I always seem to come back to the hulking Type 6.

There is something about its blocky inelegant structure and heavy handling that makes me feel the sweat on my palms as I am landing on a 1+g planet. It's a workhorse among thoroughbreds - and bringing along on this DW expedition might be madness! So if we can fly alongside each other, all the better.

I will send PMs to the other Type 6 pilots on the main roster - thanks for the suggestion!

I love the type 6, but alas I am flying the Asp, mostly because it is the first ship I truly fell in love with

I really wanted to go in a more exotic ship, but I couldnt bear to part with 'The Ship With No Name (MKII)' I look forward to seeing your mini-flotilla

OK - this is shaping up and we may all just pull this off. So far I think we can muster a flotilla of at least 4 Type 6s at the next WP. Even if we only do this for one fly-by, it will be fun! I will post a provisional flotilla list tonight when I get home and will also send off the final friend requests ingame.

If any one reading this is not on the fleet roster, please PM me if you wish to be included. We may be the poor cousin to the Asp Explorer but we will carve a place of pride within the expedition!
