[Distant Worlds] - A Rather Uncommon Flotilla

That Type 6 advert brought a tear to my, it did.

This is shaping up nicely and I think we can form a fly-by at WP 2 on arrival. What I suggest is a double-wing - Red wing and Blue wing of 3 x Type 6s each. We wing up some distance from the RP at Tinne's Endeavour, say, about 50 kms. Then Red Wing forms up in an arrow formation to do a fly-by over the landing site at around 200 metres. Blue Wing follows with another 3 x Type 6s in arrow formation about 200 metres behind.

Once Red Wing clears the RP zone, the Wing Commander initiates a slow loop manoeuvre up over and dropping in back behind Blue Wing as it passes below. This then allows Red Wing a second pass over the RP while Blue Wing mirrors Red Wing in executing its own loop. Once Red Wing reaches the centre as Blue Wing reaches the apogee of the loop, each Type 6 in Red Wing breaks apart for landing.

Blue Wing executes a similar final manoeuvre and also lands after breaking apart (not literally).

We fly slow and steady and arc up and over in style, pilots, showing all those below how the Type 6 can really fly. If we comms up using the ingame chat feature, we 'should' be able to execute this without catastrophic failure!

All we need is for the pilots to arrange to arrive at WP 2 at a set time to rehearse and then perform the manoeuvre. We can arrange this over the next few days, if it is convenient and all agree. I would imagine meeting say at 19:00 and spend an hour rehearsing positions and the manoeuvre before flying over to Tinne's Endeavour for the fly-by celebration. We may be lucky and other pilots may drop by to vid the event.

If you are interested, PM me and I can compile a list so that we can form 1 or even 2 wings for the fly-by.

I will update the OP with a confirmed list of fly-by CMDRs as we go.

Great - I'll ping a friend's request over to you tonight when I am back in the game. Look forward to flying with you in your Keelback!

Great T-6 film.

I'm still about 2.5kylies from the Lagoon Nebula...I am steadily (but too slowly, it seems) exploring my way across the Sagittarius Gap.

Managing about 650kylies a night so far...I still have still three days to make it to WP02!

Flying happy

Edit: 650 LY not 650K LY...d'oh

Would you let a Keelback in the wing?
I might not make it though, I have 23.7 ly jump range, 21% hull - which is a given as I'm 30kly out already. :)

Man, that is a really professional ad! Awesome, and beautifully done.

Hay, Witzo...could you do one for the sidey as an exploration vessel?

Sorry, I didn't want to take Rendo's spotlight, just wanted his youtube to get more views.
These were not made by me, but by Rendo Pauwels (I don't know his CMDR name), he's got a series here, including the Sidey in everyday roles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU5kZqukWGQ&list=PLRdveVy7GtLNGU1R3jerzpgjzrMd1ZtZ-

Edit: I found his original thread, it's CMDR Katsior: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=202536&highlight=commercials

Hey, whats wrong with my keelback? I'm about 2.7k LY away from Lagoon Nebula, but will be doing a longish stint tonight to catch up.

Kool, spotted you on the list and in another topic as well. :)
I'm lost like Alice in Wonderland in the core. I'm forced to throttle down before jumping because there are so many non-sequence stars, the plotted route regulary includes one - and I'm hunting red/orange/yellow giants!
So I'll be (hopefully) around when the fleet arrives in the region. The 21% hull story: I crashed into a mountain. It was in the bottom of a crater on a huge ice world, so I could barely see anything even with my lights on.

Well I finally made the RP at Tinne's Endeavour last night and what a glorious event it was. I was lucky enough to be able to wing up with CMDR Tarrakis for an approach and descent to the RP which allowed me to bring the old 'Apostata III' in for a slow and safe landing alongside his own Type 6E.

It is an eerie and beautiful place with a sense of grandeur to it which is quite humbling.

It has been a long haul out from Laika's Rest and really pushed my ship at times. I am down to 95% hull integrity due to one fuel-scooping error, a botched fly-by of a planet where I inadvertently pushed the throttle instead of pulling back, and a stupid pull-up over a red dwarf which pulled me out of super-cruise. But I am here now and the view is astonishing.

A big shout out to CMDR Tarrakis for making the landing special - nothing like seeing 2 Type 6s parked up thousands of light years from home!

Looking good. I am heading your way as quickly as RL will permit. I am a long way out at the minute but will do my best to reach you by Friday 19:00. The problem is that I keep finding things to go and look at.

If I can't get to WP02 in time I will catch up by WP05...definitely!

Flying happily

Sounds good, John474 - I know what you mean about stopping off to see the sights. Don't worry and we will see you later on!

Made it to the waypoint last night.

Ooh, great pic. I will look out for you tonight as I will be on later.

Still on my way. Hopefully will be there tomorrow eve.
