[Distant Worlds] Be right back!

Dinged my Anaconda 'Lightbringer' on a 3.3G world just beyond fine ring nebula- no reaosn to land beyond it being a ringed planet in a o class star system which made everything look this amazing purple so i thought i must have selfies..... when the valid landing spot didn't let me settle for whatever reason, a blip of up thrust and i'm airborne again and try to jiggle a bit to get the landing recognised, i fall 3m to the floor and loose shields and 5% hull.

Back to shinrarta to fix up I go... excpet when there i have a moment of madness - i hate trying to get decent angles for screenshots of the conda so now i'm heading back out in either an iCourier or an Asp scout just because..... I'm mmy own worst enemy

A truely awesome site for a selfie, and what a coincidence, TordenSkjold is on route right now for just such a selfie :)

I made it all the way to the 1st waypoint with the bulk of everyone else. It took me less than 30 minutes to make, a measly 26 jumps. I thought to myself, hang-on just 1 minute. This is supposed to be the most epic adventure ever taken. Why am I making this trip easy... Hmm, I know. Lets go back to the start and restart, only this time, no fastest jumps. ECO ALL THE WAY!!!

So here I go. I made it back to the 1st waypoint, all 158 jumps! I started all confident and happy at what I was starting, but 2hr and 20mins into the journey with 10 jumps left... Depression and fear. It quickly became apparent what hellish journey this was now to become.

I have had a while to reflect this decision though, and I can now happily say that I am going to do this! I'm more encouraged now than ever before! The depression, gone. The fear, gone. All that remains is hope and excitement!

I will make this journey to Beagle Point,
I will make it home.

Wish me luck!

If this carries on like this the estimate of arrivals at Beagle Point are going to way off mark or you all will done about 20billion Ly more than the distance required.

Nice stories everyone!
Here I was wondering why there are cargo containers, burnt out SRV's, crashed nav beacons and ships thousands of light years from the bubble.

I have my answer now;)

And that made me laugh out loud!

The price of a selfie on HR 6164? A brb!

The Yoyobbit?

I now know the price of a selfie on HR 6164 (3g): 18% hull damage. First landing ok, second landing, not so ok. Now headed back for quick repairs and then back out. That'll teach me creating a brb thread :)

You got 18%. I got lucky with a MERE 11% during that landing. And let's not try to minimise it, that world had a 3.3G gravity.
I've decided NOT to turn back around, but to carry on forward.

The conversation Macros and I had pretty much came down to "The social aspect of Distant Worlds could be it's undoing". The landings for meetups, selfies, group shots, SRV races and stunt driving all increase the risk that something will happen. That something will show up as hull damage. :)

Yep, but that's why this trip is so epic. Anyone can do a mindless jump-honk-scoop-scan-jump slog to the other side of the galaxy. That's just a test of endurance. This takes it to a whole other level. Surviving the social aspect -- the planetary landings, the group excursions, the unnecessary risk taking, the crazy pilots crashing their SUVs and nearly landing their ships on top of yours, the CMDRs flying around with a ton of Lavian Brandy in their cargo holds just for the RP value -- and making it alive to the end... that's what separates the cream from the milk. :)

Which reminds me. That Lavian Brandy isn't going to drink itself, and I need to make room in the hold for all the swanky souvenirs I'm going to buy when we get to Beagle Point. Godspeed CMDRs, and should the unthinkable happen, may your wreckage become a point of interest for future expeditions!

I just nipped back from Waypoint 01 to civilisation to get rid of two torpedo launchers.

I was dumb, and never thought to check if it was possible to synthesise replacement torp ammo. It isn't. :)

Did CMDR Jon Flint end up taking his Orca? If so I'd like to book a table for three, by the window, for 9:30 p.m., not too near the band, in the name of CMDR Bakerloo Line.

Dude... I feel your pain, that planet is one tricksy customer. Safe flight and a happy return, at least it's not tooo far.

I figured that out when I returned to the bubble to repair my 8% remaining hull ooopsie. I am keeping my torps anyway, even though they are dead weight atm, since the range difference is negligible. They are also a good deterrent against rogues and trolls, and maybe the odd thargoid scout ship? Besides it's not even 1 jump difference over 1000 LY. Hopefully FD implements a fix for the missing recipes: Heat Sinks, Chaffs, Torpedoes, etc. We don't need enhanced versions, but vanilla replacements would be lovely!

Luckily we have the magic repair bug yet, so just drive the SRV back to ship and ta-daa, it has been magically repaired.

Why do you think that is a bug? The planetary vehicle hangar comes with everything needed to repair the SRV, which is why it is repaired when you go back to your ship. It doesn't get refueled, of course, because it takes different fuel to the ship. As I understand it, the repair mechanism is by design.

After reading about this expedition about 2 days before the departure date I decided to scrap my Federal Dropship and spread my exploratory wings in an Asp Explorer. I made it to LAIKA'S REST just before the big launch (European time) and planned to tag along without signing up, it will be my first huge expedition ie. anything more than 1'000 light years out.

It didn't start off to well with my PC crashing 10 mins before the big launch. I got back in to see 2 or 3 stragglers doing loop the loops for the hell of it and couldn't help laugh at the Anaconda that face-planted into the planet's surface. That's when everything froze up and for some reason nothing was responding, someone mentioned that I might have landed again "no chance I thought I was several kilometers above the surface so I logged out. When I got back in sure enough I was in a landed position with landing gear down but still 7k in the air....odd bug. So I head off a little late to the party but nothing to write home about. Over the next few days I spent my time scanning around and I got to the FINE RING SECTOR reletively intact by that I mean 95% hull and no heatsinks left because of clumsy scooping accidents (mainly due to my wife and kids scaring me while I was in the Rift).

Trackback 1. "Maybe I should go back?" I thought, "I have not even tried planetary mining or whatever this is called and what's this 'Jumponium' that everyone speaks of?" and then it hit me "I don't have a enough jump range to make the final stages!" I could make a 27ly jump max. Thus began the first of 4 trips back to the Pallaeni system - "I'm heading back!"

Trackback 2. Trying to take that perfect picture and ended up backed into a mountain because of it - "Why 56% Hull? WHY?" ... "Oh yes I dropped shields to carry that Repair kit and get more range which means what exactly?" = Heading back

Trackback 3. "Jumponium?" "Yeah! Found some materials!" "Where has all my SRV fuel went?" "Damn it recall ship lets go back home...I'll bring two SRV's this time and be more frugal with my material expeditions" = Heading back

Trackback 4. "I feel safer now that I picked up a shield and some weapons just in case. I did drop some degree in quality but it means a Jump Range of 30, good enough." "What's this a distress call? Of course I'll answer ...." 33% hull = Heading back

I blame this last trip back on a severe lack of sleep, regardless I am sitting in Foden Dock after a complete overhaul and rethink and contemplating my 5th excursion into the black. I've long since past the 3rd time lucky stage and I've decided that this is it, no matter what I am not heading back until I reach Beagle Point or I can go no further. I'm playing catch-up now because real life has also got a hold of me and delaying my 5th and final departure .... am I ignoring a glaringly obvious multitude of signs? Or have I exorcised the last ghost of uncertainty? We shall see...at least I've finally got a name for her: "Perseverance" Perseverance.jpg

Great story, CMDR, it made me smile. Perseverance is a most fitting name for a ship aiming to go to Beagle Point :)

I'm not quite sure how to take this, but I no longer need to scan systems between Pratchett's Disc & Shapley 1...
