Distinctive HUDs - custom colors with clear friend or foe designation

Well I have used the Deus Ex Mint-Mocha for ages (it is also in that thread) and I find extremely clear and free of the orange neon glare

Well, I see the main color of that scheme is still orange. I don't see the point of getting a worse default :) but we each have our own tastes.

Actually it is more a coffee colour, hardly a "worse default" - the default neon orange gave me terrible eye-strain, particularly the text - it took ages to find a scheme that worked and kept sensor returns correct then when portraits came in they looked sensible. Here are some screenshots:

So you see it is a more "subdued" scheme than the vibrant neon orange of default.

Of course there are those who want a more sci-fi / x-files look and they are welcome to it, I just wanted a scheme that was readable and didn't hurt my eyes. :)

I've applied this to my game. It works well on my laptop screen, especially at night. Very nice, thanks Malc [up]

Standing on the shoulders of giants.

Standing on the shoulders of giants (edgepixel and others) I further refined the light blue scheme and got shield colors that I am really proud of, while maintaining the friend / enemy distinction colors:
