Divinity Original Sin 2

It's getting a lot of decent reviews. I was dabbling with getting it my problem is finding time to play it properly.

Just started to play it yesterday. Got through the tutorial area and had a few fights in the first area. The voice acting is first class so far as do other sound effects.

So far it feels really good.

Looks great and voice acting is nice.. but man is it not my style of game. It is sloooooow. After 4 hours I have almost given up. Not finding it very exciting to play at all.

I know where you are coming from. After being bored to tears by Pillars of Eternity and not really feeling Wasteland 2 either I thought this would go south quick. But I am enjoying it.

Its definitely not an action title and those who enjoy games like Grim Dawn, Diablo etc. will likely find this very slow and boring.

This is old school rpg, i dont know what did people expect, really?
Good thing that you dont try the GM mode if you think normal gameplay is slow.. :D

Ive played all of the Divinity games and have a fond place in my heart for them.
Took me 70 hours to complete the last game. This one is on my hit list but im cheap and im patient.

Steam sale...

Roundbased*, hardcore(? if you chose so), RPG with lots of demanding, strategic combat. Basically single player but can be played with a few friends. The second version should have some enhanced network functionality, but nothing even close to an MMO. Has many elements including crafting, a semicrazed storyline that involves a completely different "plane" on the edge of space and time... I think you can skip the combat elements and play it in some sort of tourist mode, if you're mainly interested in solving the puzzles. You would miss out on one of the game's stronger aspects though. :)

What I don't like is the audio, especially the voice overs. All sound material is pretty good, but the volume balances and the frequencies they are looped are so nerving that after a while I find myself constantly switching them on and off. I would happily left them muted for ever if the voice actors weren't that good. What a pity, what a waste.

p.s.
this game is a strong medicine against all possible burn out effects from playing too much ED. It has everything that ED is lacking and lacks everything that ED has to offer. A perfect Antipode! :)

*fights only

Is it third/first-person? Isometric?

Made it through Divinity/Divine Divinity and never gave the original sin release a go.

Still hear "BEWARE. OF. THE. TRAPS!" audio clips playing in my head sometimes, mind.

I've only played a bit, but it's kinda buggy so far.

I couldn't figure out how to save folks on the ship in the first scenario, and the game would not let me disembark until I did. In frustration I just killed them all. Then it let me disembark. However all the guys I just killed are now alive and well on land, and they all thank me for saving them.

I'm not overly impressed so far, but it might get better. It looks good, anyway.

I tried playing this on the classic difficulty (second easiest of 4) and I was getting my was handed to me...even now on explorer difficulty fights are tough.

This game is double nails hard.

It's clicking with me now though and it's clear that getting decent kit and skills learnt is the way forward. Once you start getting some better gear and useful skills the combat becomes much more tactical and interesting. I'm not a neck bearded rpg geek supremo so I was initially a little apprehensive coming into what's been described as olde days rpg. This is a good game though but it's taken a fair few hours to click with me, I'm glad I bruted my way through the my initial problems and dislikes. The things I found irritating were mostly down to me not knowing what in was doing.

People say that ED doesn't hold your hand but this takes your hand and shoves it up your jacksie, pulls it out of your mouth and makes you give yourself a wedgie. It's worth it though getting past all that incomprehension. The thing is fully voice acted and at about a par for the genre in terms of quality. It's not up there with Witcher 3 quality but it's much better the anything bioware or other "rpg big hitters" are putting out. The same can be said for the dialogue and storylines which are pretty good with lots of moral ambiguity and tough choices that you know will affect things sooner or later for good or ill.

Definitely worth a buy in my book.

I started on classic, similar experience. Every single battle became a massive challenge. Eventually went to Explorer, and now every battle, including all 'bosses' are won without healing or ever being in any trouble. Wish there was a medium between the two. :( Have to say I enjoy the writing better than W3, it reminds me of Baldur's Gate very much. At one point I figured out a way to 'cheat' in a quest by doing something unexpected. A talking gargoyle was on to me however, scolded me for cheating his test, and warned me this mentality wouldn't be enough for the next step. :D

So, I'm guessing I wasn't the only one who got whupped by those three crocodiles/alligators, whatever they were, I can't remember? I managed to take out one of them, the second was going down, but their AOE tail whip attacks knocked my guys down pretty quickly after that. They were level three and I was level two.

Another annoyance I found was trying to right click on someone when they are moving so you can "Examine" them. I had just finished this long chat and fight in a cave with someone, hadn't saved afterwards and tried this and accidentally clicked "Attack" instead....on a friendly. This game can be annoying sometimes. :)

Yeah it's not very forgiving of level difference at all. One level up is just about manageable but more than that is death.

I felt the second is more difficult especially in the starting hours until you get better kit and money for spells. I started on classic but bumped it down to explorer.

Huge fun with co-op. Bought this last week and already 30hrs in with couple of friends.
The negative being, that i dont want to play the singleplayer campaign anymore.. :D

Playing it with some friends at the moment.. This game is best played with mates. Especially when you accidentally set your whole team on fire, or stun them. It can be hilarious..

If you have played the original, you will love 2, it takes a while to get going, but a bit of patience goes a long way. Lots of nice QOL improvements also, like streamlined interface and a much.. MUCH longer spell bar at the bottom.
