DIY gameport adapter

So I wanted to convert an old gameport ch f16 combatstick to usb, I know I could use an adapter but we all know they dont work all that well. So I wanted to use an arduino board to convert it, but I don't know exactly how to go about doing it.

I did a similar thing (convert an Apple ADB JS to USB) using the Leo Bodnar device. Works well.
