DK2 HDMI unplugged issues. the hopes and maybe the cure!!

I've posted this as a bit of possible help for me and other users that may be getting this issue.

A bit of back ground, I've had a DK2 since before the CV1 was a thing, worked fine and had no issues etc ever even when I was messing with dev stuff.

Recently I have been getting a lot of HDMI unplugged errors from the set up. Seemingly random these generally pop up during docking and or fighting, basically at any time you'd rather they didnt.
This causes the game to become unresponsive, oddly before the recent Oculus update I was still able to fly from the monitor screen with the rift balanced on my head, now this does not work. The fix restart ED and carry on great until you have to join back up with the wing players or crew you had before.

My initial thoughts were the HDMI socket is loose or the cable is coming out etc as seems to be the fix for a lot of users getting this error.
Tried a new high quality HDMI cable with the same results, socket is nicely attached on both the Rift and the Graphics card.

I have disabled power saving on the USB 3 and USB 2 ports on the machine, which others had suggested would work. The only USB 3 things I have are the Connections for the Rift.

I found out that when the event happens what is actually happening is the receiver camera is disconnecting for a second or so and reconnecting.

I put the whole thing down to me moving my head too much but it will even disconnect while sat on the desk not moving.

The PC is well over the minimum spec and is all just under a year old as I built it with VR in mind after my old rig started to creak under the load.

Oculus say the issue is i need to buy a CV1 to fix the issue but I'm not really up for that seeing as how some users are reporting the same issue in the CV1.

currently on the list is a USB card recommended by Oculus which I'm installing later as this apparently fixes the issue.

If that doesn't work a roll back of Oculus drivers etc to the one that worked better.

Obviously a CV! would be the better bet but seeing as I only use the DK 2 for ED and Project cars I'm not loving the out lay cost.

Anyone have any pearls of wisdom to add ??

I will post my findings here if any ones interested.

Are both your USB 3 sockets you use side by side?
If they are then you maybe overloading the USB 3 controller.

If possible try using a different USB 3 socket from a different row as that will be on a separate controller.

Also as your pc is new you may also have a spare usb 3 socket on your motherboard that can be utilised with an adapter.
Not saying that is your problem but if this happens at times of more intense gameplay then it might be worth looking into.

That was one of the things I first thought, back in the early days of USB you could easily over power the sockets just using two devices on some boards.

i did try it on two totally separate sockets, not made any difference.

I have now installed my innatek oculus recommended card with them plugged into, 20 mins so far and no drop out.

I have A DK2 and have EXACTLY the same problem. I've been using it over a year with no hmd disconnections EVER. But since couple of months I get this hmd diconnection happening randomly. It can be after 5 mintues of playin (and it can be any game not just ED) or it may be fine for 2 hours straight. I'v tried everything too. Cables, different usb ports, etc with no avail. The worst is when you are in dogfight, am about to win and the hmd decides to disconnect!!! Man that sucks!!!
I believe it is a oculus driver issue/usb compatibilty.

If you have a setting in your bios* for PCIE ASPM (Active state power management) then ensure it is set to 'OS' and not 'disabled' or 'BIOS'.
Sometimes called different things etc, but you get the gist.

If this is set wrong then changing things in the OS doesn't always work properly (why some people say OS power settings solved their issues but doesn't work for others).

*NOTE: You fiddle with your bios settings at your own risk.

So Far the addition of the Oculus advised card is working fine, i did how ever turn off windows power management for it as a matter of course.
I'm going to check the Bios settings on the board as its an overclockers enthusiast board I'm guessing there will be something along the lines of PCIE ASPM in it.

For the most part despite the board stating it can supply "extra" power to the USB 3 ports it may not actually be doing so. the PSU is certainly up to it.

Conclusion ASPM settings aside it may be purely down to having a dedicated USB3 card with a molex power connector to supply more juice than the standard ports are allocated.

I post here the details later on the ASPM of my board in case its relevant.

I could not find this setting anywhere in my bios!

Before you installed the usb card, were you using the optional power adapter that came with the DK2?
Since you installed the usb card, did you get any more hmd disconnects?

I had been using it with the optional power supply as other forums had mentioned this helped, in my case it didn't. Its still connected up and since the card swap I have not had any drops. next time I play I will remove it and see what happens.

yeah that optional power does not help in my case either. I'm starting to get tired of the hmd disconnect in the middle of a game. I think I'll go buy that the usb card too. Can you provide link to exactly which card you got? thanks

Just wanna rep this!
Since I installed the inatek card (and using oculus tray tool) I havent had a single oculus hmd disconnect!
Big Thank you!
