DK2 + HOTAS + Galaxy Map = Awkward time plotting routes/accessing system map

Anyone got any advice on a better way to access that little menu that comes up with the plot route/system map/trade data buttons on it in the rift?

Right now i navigate the cursor to the system using my flight stick but then have to move the mouse up to it (which always 'loses' the menu) then i have to 'flick' the cursor with my stick until the mouse is already over the menu button when it appears.

I'm hoping you guys might have a better solution to this or something i missed maybe?

Its fine on the system map, the menu seems to stay up when the mouse is moved but in the galaxy map its such a pain lol :p

I have this problem too. I know its a pain. But I've binded "open system map" to a button on my joystick, and for the rest I use a combination of the mouse and joystick. p.s. use hatswitch to "pan" and trigger 1 to select the start/system(default). Still not perfect but useable.

wait so 'open system map' binding will open the system map of the star i have selected in the galaxy map?

I'd just assumed that would open the system map of the system i was already in..

Well this is a downside of the Oculus rift and similar vr, you cannot see where your hands/keyboard is locate other then by feel alone, I've suggested to oculus the ability of having a small camera on front of oculus that you can 'fade' in if you need to orientate.

I set the twist on my stick to translate gal map cam up-down.. whenever i mouse/blue crosshair over the star i want, I give the stick a little twist and it brings up the sub-menu. I can then use joy hats to navigate the sub-menu and my trigger selects the desired command. hope that helps

with a proper key map, you should never need to touch your keyboard.. the only reason i need the mouse is because gal map nav is much faster than using the hotas for cam movement. I will add that I'm using an X-52. not sure if all commands can be mapped to other hotas models.
P.s. I have everything mapped to my X-52 WITHOUT the use of the saitek programming software.

I have bound my castle hat to UI panel - up/down/left/right.

When you highlight a system you want to navigate to or view the system map use right (you might have to hit this a few times) to move from the main menu on the left to the system menu (sometimes it won't work, in this case hit left first a few times, then right a few times, it will usually work), then use left/right to choose the option you want (select, plot, open system, trade data) also make sure you bind a key to UI Back (not the same as UI previous) which will back you out to the previous menu, or out of the gal map instead of having to move to the exit button to exit.
