DK2: image is split when moving head

Hi,

I'm trying to play with DK2 and one thing is quite annoying. When I move head the image somehow split for time being. For example if i'm looking at a circle in front of me and I move head, I can see two closeby circles overlapping instead of one. When I stop moving head, it goes back to normal image with one circle. Very drunken-like effect :) It seems to me that calculations for two separate screens somehow fail when tracking the movement. Other apps with DK2 don't seem to do this. Do you have any idea what it could be? This is different from the general stutter I sometimes encounter and I've checked current FPS using fraps and it was like 125. Which is strange when there is FPS limit of 60hz in settings (there is no 75hz option).

Also, anybody tried out some sort of diffusion for the DK2 to soften the screendoor effect? I might give it a try as with my glasses on i can see it very sharply unfortunately. Not sure whether the blur is worth it tho.

Thanks

FPS =! Refresh rate

Try adjusting your quality settings. It seems to me that VR, both with the Oculus drivers, the graphic card drivers, nor elite are optimized yet.

It won't be on Windows in extended mode, for various low-level driver reasons. When Direct Mode is back working again it will be much better.

Thanks, tried every option inside game, no luck though :/ I guess I'll wait for oculus/ED updates

I've had the same problem since beta 3.9. I was hoping gamma release would have sorted the image splitting when turning.
I've tried all combinations of graphics settings, clear scrub and install of graphics drivers, having rift as only monitor etc.. nothing has worked so far, by lowering setting the splitting still occurs, the frames just don't move quite as far.
Before 3.9 was able to play with all setting maxed out and was butter smooth. I'm hoping it gets sorted soon.

I'm running:
AMD FX-8350 4GHz
16Gb RAM
AMD R9 280X

This is because "low persistence" is not enabled. In order for low persistence to be enabled, you have to reach 75 FPS. This can only be done in extended mode.

The effect you are seeing is not actually a graphical artifact, it's the result of your eyes automatically panning the inverse direction of where your head is turning, in order to stay pinned on whatever object you're focusing on. However, while your eyes pan, the image is incorrect for the duration of the frame, resulting in what appears to be a double image.

I have the same issue when I turn on SMAA. If I leave AA off or use nvidia DSR x2 I don't see the double image.
I run DK2 in extended and with core parking fix.

Any one running AMD system? I'm still getting double image with settings on low, oculus quality about 1/2 way and in extended mode. No magic fix?

I run AMD 7970 and to be honest the DK2 makes me feel ill (especially in stations) and strains my eyes. It's really hard to know if it's the DK2, the game or my eyes/brain because I haven't got anyone else around here playing ED on my kit. Other people seem to get on OK with it.

If it's just persistence then perhaps an upgrade is needed.

Same card no problems are you running the old drivers not the latest as this might be a problem I've resisted the upgrade and running 14.4 due to beta code/hardware. Also make sure you are locked at 75Hz in extended mode.

Just got home and checked and I'm running 14.4.

Ok then just make sure you are locked at 75Hz and extended mode, that's all I can say, but will add the reason for CV1 90Hz? is to try to eliminate the small percentage of people that have some problems with persistence. Oh Just for info I run rift on DVI (with converter) and TV as monitor on HDMI output.

In the graphics settings cfg file there is a setting which is meant to change from hz rate, it doesn't, change this one manually to 75hz. I had this effect before changing it.

Ok so after 1.02 fix I got back to testing. I got the same problem so I tried extended mode instead of direct. Good thing it helps a lot with image split, but to balance things out, it does something to colours. It seems like less colours, so the gradients have very visible fountains (visible steps) which is quite ugly. Still for me its better to play on direct and try to not move head that much :/ Interesting observation is that I dont get any split in mainmenu before jumping into the game, I can do any mental moves.

I've tried to find the file, but the thing is I've got two frontier subs in my user folder. So i've changed the ingame resolution to 640x480 and found the correct file (DisplaySettings.xml) and I've changed it manually to:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<DisplayConfig>
<ScreenWidth>1920</ScreenWidth>
<ScreenHeight>1080</ScreenHeight>
<VSync>false</VSync>
<FullScreen>true</FullScreen>
<PresentInterval>1</PresentInterval>
<Adapter>0</Adapter>
<Monitor>0</Monitor>
<DX11_RefreshRateNumerator>75000</DX11_RefreshRateNumerator>
<DX11_RefreshRateDenominator>1001</DX11_RefreshRateDenominator>
<LimitFrameRate>false</LimitFrameRate>
<MaxFramesPerSecond>75</MaxFramesPerSecond>
</DisplayConfig>

(it said 60000 for refreshratenumerator and 60 for maxframespersecond before)

Then I started up the game in direct mode and it seemed fine, so I started combat tutorial and no split (didnt try tutorial before changing the file). Naturally I was very happy so I jumped to regular game and there it was again :) So I guess its a performance issue? I set evyrthing to lowest possible settings and same thing. This is kinda suprising as my hw is: i5-4670K, 8gb ram, r9 290x and game is stored on SSD. I know its not the best rig possible, but it should do fine for 75 fps on medium settings or something like that. I also tried bringing oculus image quality all the way down and this finally helped, no split. Although its hard to tell in that hellish mode. And of course, the cfg file goes back to numerator 60000 after tinkering with graphics settings ingame. The maxframespersecond stayed on 75.

Any ideas? Also I've tried updating catalyst, no change.

Don't know about the rest of you but G1.04 has removed most of the image split/stutter for me, as long as AA is off and shadows on med.

1.04 seems to be about same on my side. Tried a bit and I got around 40fps inside the orbital station (on lowest settings). Outside I got 75, in sc it dropped back to around 50. When jumped out of sc got even lower, galaxy map also quite low. Seem really random to me. Anyone got r9 290 here? How is it running for you?
