DLSS Override for better anti-aliasing in VR?

DLSS Override for better Anti-Aliasing?

Since a few weeks its possible to set a DLSS Override in the nVidia app for games that do not support it.
Elite Dangerous has no good anti-aliasing, especially in VR textures and the ‚borders‘ between different objects or the background are flickering. I had the same issue at Skyrim VR.
But Skyrim VR works now with DLSS Override and the flickering is completely gone! the image is so much better in quality, just because of the lack of texture flickering.

It would be great if this would work for Elite as well, and it would improve the image quality of the game in VR a lot.
I tried to set the same I did for Skyrim VR for Elite in the nVidia app, but nothing changed.

Has anyone played around with this and got it to work?

Thx!
Chris

What heaset do you have? What model NVIDIA GPU? I've never looked at Elite in VR and been distracted by 'jaggies'. This is in Odyssey I presume?

If your native VR is struggling to hit 90FPS (or whatever your max FPS is) then you may see an improvement with DLSS, but instead of looking at the NVIDIA setting, try optimizing your in-game VR settings first.

Reduce the game resolution on your monitor to the lowest possible setting to give your VR display as many resources as possible. Then Select "Ultra VR" preset and try those settings. Tweak as needed.

This is what I run my Varjo Aero / 3090 on and have no issues hitting 90FPS with excellent quality. YMMV depending on your hardware and cooling solution(s), of course.

Yes its Odyssey.
I have a Ryzen 9800x3D, RTX5080 and an HP Reverb G2 headset. I reach the 90Hz without problems. And all is running fine.
I just noticed the same - lets call it - graphics effects in Skyrim VR that are completely gone now with DLSS Override. In Skyrim VR the effect was noticeable at thin trees in front of the background. In Elite Odyssey I notice it at the atennas of space stations in front of the black background.
Thats why I am looking for a solition in Elite, as I know how much better it can look :-D

I'm no expert on this stuff but I'm sure I read someone post on this forum that DLSS overrides can only work on games which actually invoke DLSS in the first place. Apparently ED doesn't, so no dice. I'd be very happy to be wrong about this though.

That's how I understood it too -- that it retroactively activates the most recent DLSS features in games that were already using a not too much older version of DLSS.
That's not to say we couldn't both have have gotten it wrong, of course. :7
