Newcomer / Intro Do destroyed modules stop hull breaching attacks?

Alright, so correct me if I'm wrong:
  • every weapon has a chance to breach hull based on its health
  • if the shot breaches the hull, it will proceed up to a certain depth, depending on weapon.
  • if the shot reaches a module on its way, it will damage the module and stop there; if not, it will damage the hull.
  • super penetrator rails allow the shot to damage multiple modules on their way

Based on the above, my question is: If a non-superpenetrator shot hits a destroyed module, what happens? Does it:
--- damage hull instead?
--- waste all damage on the already destroyed module?
--- continue onward looking for a functional module?

Also, if you don't mind, please clarify how the damage spreads between multiple modules in case of super penetrator shots :)

Thanks!

It is my impression (could be wrong) that if a module is destroyed its hit-box disappears so a shot passes through where it was.

Also, it is my understanding that super-penetrator just passes in a straight line through hit-boxes.

In both cases, the final incidence of the shot could / will be the opposite hull so imparting hull damage.

This is the only image I have of the hit-boxes of one of Elite's ships, it might help visualisation:

I am happy to be corrected of course and maybe asking this question in the ships sub-forum might produce better information. 🕹️

Thanks! So if what you say is correct, assuming I'm shooting a ship from the front with the sole purpose of hitting the power plant and all other modules on the way are destroyed, a superpen rail will have the same chance of damaging the power plant as any other rail type, right?

That is my understanding too, but bear in mind I am not one of the combat specialists (I am rubbish at it) so don't take it as gospel.
