Do ED store proceeds go into Elite development?

Can you give me a page number for that?

I have the financials in front of me, and I can't see anywhere anything saying that Elite is not being developed properly. Quite the opposite, in fact (see page 8). Which page are you on?
How about Planet Coaster? Do you really think ED is currently subsidising a successful game that's been out over a year? Again, the page reference for that would help me very much.

The nature of all companies is that revenue is used to pay for costs. JWE isn't out yet, so clearly that has no revenue. Revenue from both PC and ED will, in part, go towards JWE's costs. It is the nature of business. If FD abandoned all other games then we'd have the usual threads here about 'FD is dead, it has no revenue except for Elite'. You may also notice the increased headcount since 2014, an indication it's not 'drop Elite to work on the new shiny'.

In short - it's a sound company doing well with an increasingly diversified portfolio. Working on more than one game at a time is quite possible, desirable, sensible and good for us all.
He can't, he already made that claim a few weeks ago and couldn't prove it.

Why would it? I mean ED is a business, they take money and they spend on development and support. Or take as a profit.

I bought ED because I love the game. I buy cosmetics if I like them. Yes, I still spend money with thought in mind I support company...

But nutshell is this - no company gets income from game and goes "ohh they pay well but we won't care about project because it is so profitable". It does not make sense. Every unit bought, any cosmetics acquired shows up in their internal numbers and says - hey, ED is game people love, so yeah, keep adding to it. It is positive feedback loop.

If these theories how bad FD is when it diverses their portfolio with such awesome games like PC and JWE...seriously guys?

Maybe, just maybe you feel they are too slow for giving you something you want. Which is fair...But nothing to do with how FD spends money they recieve from you.

I wonder if more Cmdrs would do this if there were guarantees that this money would go directly towards the speedier development of the game…?

There won't be guarantees, but it seems highly probable that the more people spend on cosmetics, the more Frontier will work to keep players happy with the game over the long term. People not playing the game won't be buying from their store.

If the OP only buys extras to ensure the development of Elite, then I suggest he donates money directly to Frontier stating exactly how he wants that money to be used.

I shall look at the extras with a critical eye, and decide if what they are offering for the money is worth the purchase. I'll let Frontier themselves look after their own business.

It is like 2 plus 2 equals 4 right? But I guess everything is debatable these days...sigh.

Anyone who thinks FD should only put money into ED and should only care about ED players, please, never go into business for yourself.

There is a massive difference between taking Horizons pre-order revenue for Elite and putting it into Planet Coaster before Horizons is developed and putting profits remaining once Horizons is adequately developed into other games.

The first situation gives us what we have now with Horizons being delivered as a minimum viable product a full year later than planned. The second situation would have adequately developed Elite before putting revenue and resources into other games.

Indeed, people often underestimate her contribution to the development of the game. If she wasn't there, dust would build up, developers would get allergies and start calling in sick, and sooner or later the whole of Frontier Developments would simply implode!

Can someone get some flowers delivered to the office in the name of Doris?

Doris needs a station named in her honour.

On topic: Buy more skins as JP needs developing :D

I spent 40 pounds in the store over Xmas, in part as this years fee for the game... beyond.

Anyone?

I think not even the buys from ED on its own or Horizons are only for ED. Planet Coaster was developed shortly after ED so, which money would they took to make this game ? :) Next is Jurassic Park and dont forget the console versions... instead of concentrating on ED with that money they use it for all games... as a company I fully understand this point but as ED player, I am feeling a little bit betrayed because I supported the game since 2015 but the progress is slow as hell and we still cannot win or earn a single Paintjob in the game...

Frontier Developments is a publically traded company and they publish an Annual Report every year that you can read and download. All the information you need to know about the various development decisions and financial information about Elite and FD's other games can be found there.

To summarize, Elite draws in massive revenue but a large part of that revenue is used to subsidize the development of FD's other games instead of being used to develop Elite properly. FD makes no attempt to hide this as it is very attractive for shareholders. It is not particularly attractive to the Elite playerbase however.

It's even worse that that. FD is selling paint jobs and diverting that money away from developing paint jobs. Surely, they could have invented a new color by now.

Don't get me started about the lack of bobblehead technology.

It's outrageous and I'm outraged!

Same! I bought a couple of the bobbleheads. I want that money to be used to develop more bobbleheads. It's unfair if that money is used to make paint jobs or something dumb like that.

It's important to remember that our spending in the store, funds the shiny new BMW cars as well as the game.

Well that explains a lot, you know what they call BMW drivers...

Oh and in answer to the OP, no it would not make me spend any money in the store.

Since when does a customer that walks into a store and purchases a product get to decide where that company spends its money?

Good luck with that. Try walking into a store sometime and telling them how you want them to spend your money.

and dont forget the console versions...

I won't forget, as I and many others wouldn't be here without the console versions. Thanks to ED on PS4, I've bought the full game, paint, colorful lasers, and etc. That's more financial resources for Frontier to further develop ED. At least that's what the optimistic angel on my right shoulder says.

I think it's quite simple really...

Cosmetics
DLC >----- Big Pot of Cash in the Bank of Frontier.
Base

The Big Pot of Cash a very large number. The things mentioned above go into making that number bigger. The bigger the Big Pot of Cash, the more games Frontier can develop.

Easy no?

Wat

You mean... if I buy a sammige at a restaurant, that money goes towards the operation of the entire restaurant, not just replenishing the sammige stuff? That's just crazytalk.

The situation with Horizons is more like pre-ordering a drink at a coffee shop using a phone app. Only when you arrive to pick up your drink you find that instead of actually making your drink the staff spent their time preparing scones. This was despite knowing full well that you had already paid for a drink and expected it to be made on-time. When you show up to pick up the drink all they have are scones for you to purchases which are completely unrelated to what you already paid for. Then when they finally make your drink they forget the syrup and give you a smaller size coffee than what you actually ordered.

The situation with Beyond is like the coffee shop cancelling the pre-order app because the company finally realizes that no one is going to pre-order drinks under those circumstances. Instead we get one of those cards where you need to collect stamps to get a free coffee and Beyond is essentially us redeeming that free coffee. Only it's a small coffee that isn't nearly good as the coffee that we had already paid for so it's not really helping despite being "free".

There are plenty of additional customer service analogies I can make for how FD has been treating the Elite playerbase, and none of them are particularly encouraging.
