Do hostile stations prevent your shields from recharging?

Sorry if this is something everyone knows, but I usually avoid combat outside of stations.

Last night, though, I was harassing a rival player faction, we were outside the no fire zone, but of course with the enemy having "report crimes against me" turned on i became wanted. Next thing I knew, My full engineered shields dropped completely and they were not recharging. And no, i wasn't silent running, (edit - and had some pips to sys) I'm not a noob. :)

Never experienced this, but does the station have some kind of ability to knock out shields like that and prevent recharge? The station itself wasn't attacking me, I don't believe, i was at least like 7-10km out.

Thanks

I'm not sure what engineered effects the stations weaponry has, but this sounds like your SYS capacitor was empty, which would prevent your shield from recharging. Did you forget to allocate pips to SYS?

Nope, they dont have anything like that. 7-10km out should put you outside of stations range (At least from my experience), was anyone attacking you at the time, was you under fire from a mass of security ships for instance? What ship are you flying?

Was it possibly a power issue, are you running over 100% usage (And/Or had no pips in shields), and maybe need to micromanage the power settings? Otherwise, possibly a bug, but I have never heard of that one before.

Hello Commanders!

Starport cannons fire a specialised round that deals massive damage, with a proportion driving straight through shields to the shield generator. They can pop a generator in very short order, so may have been the cause.

They also have a pretty big range once they are aware of you (I think it's around 8km), though at extreme range you can potentially evade the shells.

Nice information to have - thanks Sandro :)
