Newcomer / Intro Do I need to FSS a system more than once?

Hello good people
So even though I'm 160 hours in, I'd still consider myself a beginner and I've got a lot of simple questions. Just one for now.
I've just discovered how it works and have successfully done so on one system. I'm looking at perhaps exploring as my main activity. From what I understand, I enter a system "honk" then use the FSS, then scan each body in that system to maximize my profit when I want to sell the data yeah?
So, would I need to or Is there any reason why I'd need to FSS a system more than once on seperate sessions or occasions? Which aspects/activities change on a new session or every so many hours?
Thanks for any advice anyone can give me

Once you've FSS'd a system and assuming you've handed the data in its done forever. The only time you'd need to FSS a system twice is if you lose your ship before handing in the data.

What's more, if the system was a first discovery (and you hand in the data) other cmdr's that visit the system will be able to see the whole system map when they arrive.

If you're going to make exploration your thing you'll also want to bring a DSS (detailed surface scanner) so that you can map the most valuable planets for more profit.

So I jumped into this system the other day which I found interesting so I spent a bit of time here. I used the FSS to examine all its bodies and found two water worlds and two terraformable high metal content worlds, so out of the whole system just those 4 bodies were really worth mapping with the DSS for increased credits.

You can use the FSS when not exploring to locate (and identify) Unidentified Signal Sources, some of these contain manufactured or encoded materials useful for engineering others can contain NPCs if you want combat. They can be found using the Nav panel and by flying around close enough to spot one but using the FSS is quicker and not only lets you find all of them but tells you how much time they have until they expire.

If you're talking about unexplored and uninhabited systems out in the Black, then no.
But if you're talking about inhabited systems or systems close by, then (like aRJay said), the FSS can substitute the need for checking out the Nav Beacon (or vice versa) - both for finding USS in general as well as finding Mission locations.

Awesome everyone, thanks for the info. Also, if I FSS, does this add any value to data sold?
It increases the amount of data you have to sell for a system, fitting a Detailed Surface Scanner then visiting and mapping the planets you find will add to what you have for sale. Scanning and mapping everything in the system gets you a bonus I think.

If you don't FSS then the only data you will have to sell is that discovered by the passive detection range of the scanner (30ls) - to actually discover anything beyond that you have to tune and zoom the body. DSS mapping (firing probes until the body is100% mapped) is a much higher value of payout and of course first discovered and first mapped are even higher payouts. As @aRJay points out there are also bonuses for fully discovering (fssing all bodies) and fully mapping a system.

In case you have not seen this before, here is a graphic showing payout for exploration data by body:

Perfect! I have not seen that graphic, that pretty much answers my question in addition to what everyone else has mentioned. Thank you all.
