Do Solo/ Co-op Players have a Future in Elite?

There is no risk, no thrill, no challenge, no thought required. You know where to pick up stuff, you know where you need to dump it. Its almost fully uneventful, and if you are attacked its the same as any other random attack by NPCs. That is why it has become the meta for people: you can just do much more in solo than online. It essentially has reduced powerplay to a game of who can grind the longest, which is why the change is proposed. Its also why I, and many others, gave up on PP; if you dont like mindless challenge-devoid grind, you dont like pp. As for increasing AI: you'll get the same storm as when that happened earlier. Some people just love mindless riskfree grind. That is fine, to each his own. But at some point a choice has to be made, and I am glad FD is considering 'engaging gameplay' over 'mindless grind'.

There's no challenge for the fully A-rated engineered combat ship either, especially as they seemingly don't want to fight each other. Funny how that works eh?

Could be a perfectly valid cat and mouse game, if it wasn't ruined by the instancing system.

I just wonder what the original intention behind removing a substantial pillar of gameplay from approximately half of the Elite Dangerous community was?
<snip>

Do you not think you are over reacting? Firstly its not a substantial pillar of gameplay, and no one is being removed from accessing it. They are just proposing that to participate in powerplay you'll need to play in Open.

And what is with all of this nonsense about solo players, pg players, and open players? We are ED players and can switch modes as we wish.

Considering you guys have pretty much had it all your way for years I find this hysterical reaction to be little different to a child stomping its feet.

If PP was a pillar of gameplay, it would explain all 'the sky is falling' threads. Lol

Thought so.

It could just be the PP npc's, and only towards players actively aligned to an opposing PP faction.
Well, there's always some to complain about anything I guess.

The "magic option" to mean while playing (eg: mining) you can't encounter any "counter-productive" gameplay from any other player at all in the game? :)

I avoid open to avoid ever seeing anything like your Avatar, kill me now Thargoids.

PP, CG's, BGS, most players actually are not interested in any of it, I have zero interest in any of it.

I like to make credits, buy ships, and kill NPC's, so why would I ever want to play in open, when I care less about meeting anyone?

If there is no longer any room for SOLO mode, then there are other video games to spend money on . . .

Well, lucky for FDev, Elite Dangerous isn't a subscription game- they won when you purchased the game. The only thing they lose by you leaving is the potential bit of money spent on cosmetics, and even that is ever so slightly offset by you no longer taking up server resources. They presumably will miss out when they get around to releasing the next paid expansion, but I'm sure there well be plenty of other players excited to pick that up. Who knows? Maybe the change that drove you away would have improved the game, thus attracting far more new paying customers.

That's the attitude.

Yep. I'm a LEP owner. If / when I eventually stop playing, all FDev will lose is the occasional cosmetic purchase, my contribution to the life of the game in open, and my suggestions and feedback on the forums.

As are mine until the end of Beyond. Well said!

Is op suggesting that ED becomes 24/7 pvp?

Undock - pvp
Leave station - pvp
Super cruise - pvp
42,001 ly from sol - boo, thought you were safe... PVP!!

This game has no problem with solo but multiplayer mode.
As soon another real multiplayer space game comes out, open will be empty.

I've often thought about that. With EVE coming to the end of it's useful lifecycle (unless they innovate massively), I think most of the noise is those players moving to ED and making demands to get what they're used to. I just hope to Pinhead, FD don't think they are currently capable of making Elite, some kind of EVE replacement therapy.

It'll be like morphine to a heroine addict.

That said, at least the violence will be motivated at last, but not through Powerplay.
