Do Twitch Drops only work if the stream is 'Live'???

I signed up to Twitch while watching the 'Frameshift' on youtube. If I'm watching anyway, might as well get free skins.... So I am brand new to twitch.... Twitch account says I'm connected to Frontier, and Frontier says I am connected to Twitch.... Looks like I'm all set up properly on both ends, But I'm not getting any progress showing after watching 2 full Frameshift episodes. I watched episode #1 first and after no update I decided to watch the newest Episode #4 thinking maybe the older is no longer valid.... First tried on PC desktop using Microsoft Edge, Twitch profile showing with green icon and green dot showing 'Online'.... Also trying on PC laptop using Chrome, same status.... With both I can close out Twitch and come back and it takes me back to where I left off in the current vid, so cache seems to be working fine, Did page refresh as well..... So do you only get Drops when they are streaming live... (When I first signed up with Twitch it took me to a recommended vid which was trying to give me Drops from a game I never heard of, so it seems like my account is properly set up to receive Drops....)

Yes, they only work when watching a live version of the stream instead of a re-watch. After 1 hour of watching you get the first drop, a claim button shows up at the bottom of your chat window. After the progress gets to 100%, which is seen at https://www.twitch.tv/drops/inventory, click CLAIM under the drop obtained. Be sure to connect your account, if needed, at https://twitch.frontierstore.net/

Edit: I forgot to mention they will be available for the rest of the month so if you don't get the drops the first or even the 2nd stream you'll have more chances to get them.

Do they stream them at different times (next is Thursday at 11am, I guess that's about 4pm for you guys)... I'm at work Thursdays at 11am, most of us are in the states.

It's the same time each Thursday. It's 10am central, for myself, so if you're in the Eastern time zone it would be 11am yes. Even if you just had the browser window open with the sound muted that would work. Afterwards, you'd just go to the Inventory link I posted, click "CLAIM" under the thumbnail picture of that specific drop. The last thing I mentioned can be done at any time doesn't have to be right after the stream.

I think there are apps too, so if you have the bandwidth you could let it stream to your phone and lower the volume.
I guess I'm just gonna have to miss out on the Twitch stuff... I don't work from home and I'm not in a position to be able to stream at work... Well at least I can delete my Twitch account and stop these hours of trouble shooting trying to figure out what's wrong. Thank you guys for clear answers.

Yep you can set to quality to 160p and let it play muted in another tab if you just care about the drops. I use that trick to get drops for Rust.

I also live in the US and will always be at work during any of their streams.

So, I used the twitch app on my phone, set the stream to 160p, muted the volume, and just sat it on my desk for the whole two-hour stream. I got both DBX paint job drops doing that. It took about 420 megabytes of data for the whole two-hour stream so if you can spare that on your data plan then maybe this could work for you too.

Anyone has the ⚽⚽ to put a poll somewhere:
a) I don't watch the stream, it's on mute and low res on some other device, I only click for drops
b) I watch and hear every second of the stream
:)

Only when live.
That's how it works with ANY twitch drops from any games, if people are interested to know.

You can, however, put it on a smartphone or on a tab and mute it. You don't have to watch it, technically.

I think I'm set up properly with Twitch. can twitch be set to play a stream automatically, several hours prior?
It's that or stay up all night to catch the stream.

Statistically most of "us" are in India or China. European company, European time. That is how the cookie crumbles.

(I can usually watch about 15 minutes of the end of the stream due to work, too, btw :p)

I'm too spoilt by TV On demand to watch anything live lol. I mean, planning my schedule around a set time for a show? Are we back in the 90's / early 00's. /s

Even in the UK/EU timezones these coincide with Still being at work / travelling home / fixing supper. However, I in no way expect FDev to stay late for me. It would be nice to gain access to the drops when watching a recording within, say, a day of the live broadcast. However, the rewards are purely for those watching Live, and I guess it's this "Live viewers" figure that's important for some reason.

As I know the timings of these shows simply would never work for me, I knew I'd never get any of the free paint jobs - some of them are pretty nice too. Points to those who fake watch it though, I'd never have thought of that lol.

Imho this is actually what FD should do. Other gaming companies are doing exactly this to reach out to their "paying players" (or adults who have a job/family/etc.).
So starting the stream at e.g. 18:00 BST would be more convenient for most of the audience, I think. At least for most of the European residents 🤷‍♂️

My 2 Ct. but ymmv

Oh yeah, you're not wrong. I've stayed late many a time at work to support a customer's needs - didn't even get paid overtime, but it was expected. So, it'd be nice if FDev catered for those of us in the same approximate time zone, certainly. If people could just watch the recording of the show and qualify for the free stuff all would be well, but it has to be live which excludes people. I'm not going to pretend to watch, but I would perhaps listen live if it was a podcast and didn't contain visual elements.

I'm not personally that fussed, it's just a shame that people would would love to watch live and get the free stuff are excluded by time zone / work / other commitments.

Its amazons/ twitch rules that only live content features drops... Not the broadcasters...
Twitch requires live views....
There is nothing stopping Fdev putting a voucher code up in the live stream for Youtube viewers but they dont as thats the agreement with twitch...
They could just add a code in the description on youtube.... but then the view figure tank on twitch...
