Do we need more than one class of SRV?

I don't think we NEED one. We've done just fine for over a year but giving us one that carries more cargo would be great, it would make surface scavenging worth it

As I have often repeated, I want something with caterpillar tracks, slower (e.g. 20m/s top speed), more sturdy, less prone to being toppled, and able to turn on the spot. Actual walking legs notwithstanding, caterpillar tracks are the most effective drive system in difficult terrain and would be a natural choice for any mission profile of an SRV:

Tracked SRV with a big gun in a turret and strong shields but no cargo capacity (SPACE. TANK.)
Big slow wheeled SRV with no guns but lots of cargo capacity
SKIMMER SRV WITH GOOD GUN BUT WEAK SHIELDS ALSO GOES FAST

SKIMMER SRV I WANT IT NOW

We needed different SRV-s like 2 years ago, and IIRC we were promised that it will happen at some point...
They will still be nice to have, but TBH at this point i lost any hope that it will happen before the heat death of the universe...

yes please.
I would very much like a two wheeler (or a speeder type) and one for mining (to go underground!!)

Finally, the big one:

A SRV designed for low gravy envornments and specifically restributes its weight to be bottom-heavy and stable so you don't go head over heels every time you go over a rock on a .0006 radius moon.

That should actually not be needed.

What we need is for Frontier to fix the drive by wire system so that we can choose so it compensates properly for low gravity and the thrusters on the ship counteracts the gravity as if we were on a G1 planet.

Same for traction control. We have six wheels and a millenia of computer tech but we cannot have a SRV that can avoid spinning out of control?

Unless my memory is playing tricks on me, Frontier showed concept art for new SRVs to be introduced post 2.4 as part of their show-and-tell at LaveCon.

Easiest step would be to add one or more slots to the SRV for customization (and naming of your SRVs so you know which is which when disembarking). Then they could use the ship kit technology to add visuals to the modules. Saves the time for completely new models/animations/sounds.

I wouldn't say we really "need" any new type but as a person that likes choice and variety I say why the heck no? Like big sturdy transport SRV with lots of cargo, the one from concept pic looks pretty alright. [up]

Woop. That's interesting. Especially if you could artificially compensate the other way, on high G worlds too.

Only here to say really, need a new SRV? Maybe. Like to have? Yes please but mostly .. I LOVE scrambling in the Scarab. Maybe I have simple tastes but - for me - the Scarab does not get old.
