Do you enjoy honk-jumping within the bubble?

  • No, and I would like to reduce the amount of it needed within the bubble

  • No, but I believe it is necessary for immersion (or other reasons) and wish to keep it as it is

  • Yes, I find the mechanic itself enjoyable, but there is too much of it in the bubble

i think the mechanic itsself could be improved perhaps, but for the most part, when the servers are behaving and everything is running at full speed i think it is fine. I voted the bottom one because despite the biased wording I know your issue is with jump range, and that i am absolutely fine with.

things i would tweak,

1) the lag behind syncing drives when in a wing, i would like my drive to charge a split second after the lead ship has started
2) back in the dev diaries i believe there was talk of each jump being unique changing based on what is in the system you are jumping from and jumping too, rather than the same sequence every time.

Currently 58% of people with a sample size of over 100 are saying keep it as it is. Funny how that's not the impression you get from reading the forums recently.

It's almost as though there's a difference between the loudest, and the majority. And that's not even touching on the massively biased poll design.

The travelling mechanics themselves are fine. The only thing I would like to see is the hyperjump sequence drastically reduced. Its way too much "please wait while loading" in long trips. Ditch the countdown (there's already the FSD charge) and shorten the witchspace animation. Also a quick zoom in to the destination at the end would be glorious, instead of the abrupt final transition.

Man I think the bubble feels too small and easy to traverse as it is!

And you don't think that's more a side effect of how the travel mechanic in the game works? If humanity had the means of travel as presented in the game, they would probably spread a lot faster and a lot further than what the bubble portraits.

None of the above. Within the bubble I don't even bother carrying a discovery scanner. I treat within-bubble travel as "practice" for rapidly stringing jumps, aiming to be clear of the stars heat-zone before the FSD has finished cooling down so that I can trigger the charge the INSTANT it's online (hint - watch the visual countdown indicator, do not wait for the audio tone or the "drive online" message, those can lag a bit. This saves 1-2 seconds per jump) and be aligned with my destination before its ready to engage. So honk-jumping just isnt a thing for me. Discovery scanner takes longer than FSD cooldown so honking would just slow me down.

You can charge the FSD while honking.

Usually the honk doesn't complete until my FSD is already charging.

I would have liked it better if you actually had to find planets, then scan them.
The "honk" just fast tracked the whole idea of exploring anything...because you're not exploring squat.
It's just a credit mechanic.

I put it down to the fact that I'm an explorer. For me (as evidenced recently) an 8800ly round trip is popping home. My perspective is warped.

Even with my sub 15LY jump range Cutter, I'm good with the way it is. I always keep scanners equipped, as I like finding things on my travels.

If you want faster travel, do you live in the city, do you view traveling as a way to get from point A to B or do you value the journey itself?

Not the right question.

The right question is: do you mind jumping within the bubble?

No, but that's not the right question.

IMO, generalizing and simplifying the issue like that isn't going to get anywhere in the discussion. It's patronizing and only serves to greater the divide. I think there are some valid issues with the jump-ranges of some of the ships in regard to the kind of gaming experience we were advertised.

IMO, this is an MMO, the way that the jump-system works at the moment, does a lot to hinder spontaneous multi-player game play, and I believe that is detrimental to the game as a whole. IE - An MMO whose core travel mechanics make a combat play style with friends exceedingly difficult is not great game design.

Trailer: Oh man! Look at those awesome ships fighting with each other in space! And guys - you can do this with your firends around the world! At any time! doesn't that sound great!?

Game: Oh, you wanted to do some awesome ship fighting with your friends from around the world? Oh, well, here, equip these parts, then watch this loading screen a dozen times after hitting this sequence of buttons and...

Anyway...

Is it too big a leap to imagine that we haven't quite mapped out everything in the bubble yet? And that settlements and stations may have been built in areas that aren't officially mapped? Or that the originald ata might be lost?

Personally I think we can get round the galaxy too fast. However, at the current pace one can still get a nice feeling of loneliness landing on a barren rock near the Running Man Nebula and finding the degraded remains of another ship that must have crashed far away from home.
