If they're 2 males, probably."This is a critically endangered species! Only two of them are left in existence! You must record the data about them, before they're lost forever!"
"I'm sorry sir, but protocols require scans of three genetically distinct specimens before being accepted in the galactic lifeform database."
"So you're saying that, if there's only two of them left, then they're already legally extinct?"
"Ummm.... Yes, I suppose so."
No you need 3 samples to complete the scan. If you only have 2, genomics won't buy your data, and if you scan a different species the two samples you currently have will be lost.
Check out @FalconFly excellent guide to exobiology/genomics.
Finding bio signals
Can someone explain what the gameplay is supposed to be with these things? Searching finds a lot of threads with bad information (no, the colour of the DSS does not correspond to signal likelihood any more, as per official word). I can filter the DSS to a particular type of life, fly down to a...forums.frontier.co.uk
They are quite lame the scanning mechanics:
While I am reluctant to compare, No Mans Sky got the scanning right, so maybe I am spoiled.
- 3 scans of the same, or lose them all
- You can only do 1 species type at a time

I also see no reason for the arbitrary busywork/time-wasters that are
Considering the time vs. payout/results curve especially with many Bios present on a Planet, I see no need for these time-wasters. Provides no benefit but wastes plenty of time.
- scan 3 of the exact same Bio
- that Hightech container that's clearly only gathering Data during sampling can upload an unlimited amount of Sampling Data to your Library.... but only analyze 1 Bio at a time
Frankly, I expected at least Engineering to target these details (classic design : here's a few annoying and artificial restrictions - do Engineering loops to lift them to "normal and expected performance").
PS.
Is it just me... or does the sound FX you get when you complete the 3rd sample with the "Sample Complete" HUD Message suspiciously sound like a... Trashcan (??)
Every single time I hear that sound something in me feels trolled lol
