Do you get anything if you only scan two samples of a type of flora?

No you need 3 samples to complete the scan. If you only have 2, genomics won't buy your data, and if you scan a different species the two samples you currently have will be lost.

Howver one sample does populate the bio record in the system map, so if you only want to see what's there and what you have already scanned that helps.
 
They are quite lame the scanning mechanics:
  • 3 scans of the same, or lose them all
  • You can only do 1 species type at a time
While I am reluctant to compare, No Mans Sky got the scanning right, so maybe I am spoiled.

Very true. I'd hazard a guess it took frontier all of 5 minutes to come up with this idea "to throw explorers their bone", before they went back to working on the pew pew aspect of EDO.
 
If only two specimens remain, we can record it in the codex for posterity. I guess we can think of the Codex as the new "fossil record". ;)

I also see no reason for the arbitrary busywork/time-wasters that are
  • scan 3 of the exact same Bio
  • that Hightech container that's clearly only gathering Data during sampling can upload an unlimited amount of Sampling Data to your Library.... but only analyze 1 Bio at a time
Considering the time vs. payout/results curve especially with many Bios present on a Planet, I see no need for these time-wasters. Provides no benefit but wastes plenty of time.
Frankly, I expected at least Engineering to target these details (classic design : here's a few annoying and artificial restrictions - do Engineering loops to lift them to "normal and expected performance").

Is it just me... or does the sound FX you get when you complete the 3rd sample with the "Sample Complete" HUD Message suspiciously sound like a... Trashcan (??)
Every single time I hear that sound something in me feels trolled lol

Apparently the mined fragments fly by themselves in the ships too... Or so i heard... never played NMS tho

Anyway, back to EDO Exofumblimology, the lack of multiple scanning containers is what kills it for me at the moment. I will pass it for the moment.

Personally I would have required samples of the plant at different growth points, the first scan would return a base amount, then different scans at different ages would return a bonus, this bit about you have to scan samples further away is pretty silly unless you were mapping biodiversity, in which case each sample should be worth a value if it shows divergence and samples from different parts of the planet should give greater reward than from close by.

There are many ways you could actually add some sort of interest to the process.
 
I agree. I think it would be far better if one sample was sufficient, but additional samples would add bonuses. In fact, it would naturally encourage people to gather the additional scans if you could double or triple the payout by completing all three, but still get the base payout with only one sample. Then it would be a choice. If you want the money, do the additional scans/samples. If you want to be more time efficient, skip them.
