Do you need any other deer species?

Classic for Europeans. As an American East-Coaster I'd consider the White-Tailed Deer an example of a classic deer.

I agree, as someone from the Midwest, the White-Tailed Deer is also the first thing that comes to mind when I think about deer.

However, personally I would be a bit disappointed if the White-Tailed Deer were added instead of the Red Deer, because we already have Red Deer statues in the game. I also just generally think the Red Deer is a bit more majestic overall and feels like more of a proper "zoo animal". But to each their own, of course!

Ah, that's true. I'm just not a huge advocate for any more deer in general -- wouldn't complain but have no strong desire for another.

While yes, the white tailed deer is the normal american deer, i wouldnt call it a classic animal.
Correct me if im wrong, but Afaik the white tailed deers impact for american culture can be boilee down to wild game.
The red deer on the other hand is a culturally loaded animal, seen as the standard for things like fairytail and the deer that you would see on things like crests and artwok.
The red deer is deeply integrated in european and with that also western culture in general to some extend, aswell as just being one if europes few standout species in general.
Over here, the Red deer stands on even ground with the wolf, fox, white stork, eagle, lion and bear as one of the most iconic and most culturally important animals, so really calling the majesty of the forrest anything but the classic deer would be a disservice from both a historical and cultural view.
If you see a deer in pop culture, very high chances that its a red one, for example in the crest of the golden deer in fire emblem three houses.
The only cultural reference for the white tailed deer i could find was that in the movies, bambi was made one, as americans wouldnt be familiar with a european roe deer, bambis original origin.

It’s not that popular in the zoos where I live and many consider it as a species that you can sometimes even see in the wild. I would like to see it in the game but not before other deer species with status being extended from vulnerable to extinct in the wild and has their value to the zoo mission.

These days modern zoos give up on species that has no meaning for the international breeding programs and it would be nice if that would also have been implemented to the game during the selection species process.

Père David’s deer is a standard build deer with many characteristics that are very interesting and unique and it is also extinct in the wild. I would like to see it the game since thanks to zoos it is still on this earth.

I understand that many of you could disagree and I respect that but I think that this game should also has its educational value and contain species that has a meaning to their existence and celebrate their success as the Pere David’s Deer definitely is. On the top of that it would be nice to have a Asian deer species.

As I said, I want as many deer as possible, but one thing that is being mentioned often on this thread is that it would be nice to have an Asian deer. Well, the reindeer and the moose are already Asian deer. And the red deer would also be an Asian deer (and African). Probably what people mean is a 100% Asian deer with a range exclusively in Asia, but I just wanted to point that out .

Well, unless we are talking about the Bactrian red deer. It's pretty endangered in the wild, breeds in American and European zoos, it counts as Asian cervid, and would fit the red deer items we already have in PZ.

However, I would rather (or even better, also) have a smallish cervid like muntjac, pudu or brocket deer.

For my personal zoos: One of muntjac/pudu and an elk. The red deer also feels like it should be in the game given that it has a silhouette.

I really would love to see the white-tailed deer, as it's the only real choice for a "default" deer here. North America already has two deer, but they both veer towards extravagant to the extent that I end up using the non-native fallow deer as my standard no-frills deer. I understand they aren't a popular choice, but they're irreplaceable to me.

Failing that, Pere David's or maybe Eld's deer would be my next choice. They both feel suitably exotic in a way that the red deer doesn't quite capture, so they'd be perfect in that regard. Either way I think we could stand to have one more proper deer to round us out.

Wouldn't say no to a muntjac or other small deer either, but taxonomy aside they feel like an entirely separate sort of thing, if that makes sense.

While I initially wanted the Red Deer, the Fallow Deer really fills in the European Deer niche for me. The only other deer I would like would be a small asian one, a muntjack perhaps.

There are three deer that I really

1. Indian Hog Deer
there are some at Beauval Zoo and Lunaret Park

2. Red deer my favorite and because there are some in my local zoo (Zoo de Servion) Switzerland

3. Visayan spotted deer my favorite deer because there are some in the zoo of Mulhouse France

If we would get just one other deer species, I would take the Père David's deers, as it has a very strong conservation story (actually would have preferred these over the water buffalo). A red deer or a sika would be really versatile, but wouldn't really be a personal priority. Anyway, I hope that the fallow deer wasn't the last deer species we've seen in the game.
