Do you recommend Elite to your friends?

Cunningly I bought the elite pin badge from the frontier store. With my tendancy to wear a few odd badges most people ignore the thing those who recognise it for what it is I tell about ed warts and all.

It comes with a health warning that this not a place to expect instant gratification or regular human contact, even in open play. ED is still in an awkward growth spurt and will get better with age.

I do indeed. Sadly most of them are already into other games very deeply (long time playing, mod creation on a higher level for those games) but i think one or two will come and play as soon as we can group up. Also some of them played original Elite so they most def will buy it cause of that.

I had a chat about this game with four buddies from the good old Amiga days. All of them had played Elite and were interested in Elite Dangerous. One of them was already waiting for the OSX version.

After explaining to them how the whole always online requirement is detrimental to the classic way of playing and how you have no save games to protect your time investment, even in solo mode, they quickly lost all interest in getting the game. We've got lives that take up most of our time and gaming is supposed to be fun, not a grind where hours of progress can be wasted by one dumb mistake.

Explaining the offline mode bait and switch debacle as well as the extremely poor customer service (total lack of response) did not help their enthusiasm either.

So no, I did not and do not recommend this game to friends in its current state.

The game mechanics are good for the most part, as is the visual/sound design, but there are too many dumb design decisions relating directly to the stupid, forced online requirement.

You had friends who loved the old elite...and you talked them out of it? You need to work on your sales skills. Original players are a no brainer who would love it.

I do recommend Elite of course, but with all honesty I also recommend them to wait a bit longer with the purchase until game receives more content.

At first I wanted to try and get my mates onboard because theoretically I would love to have my friends as wingmen and I only really enjoy multiplayer games when my mates are about as well but there's just not enough to the game right now that not only would I feel bad about conning my friends into buying the game as it is now, but they would rightly not be very happy with me if I did.

Can´t recommend it in its current form. If/when its nearer to the DDF proposals (I know now its more like guidlines, what if) I can recommend it. Tbh I´m a PB1, when I would have known that release 1.0 would be this, 15 ships, not 25-30, no wings etc etc. I would have probably not bought it AND I´m an 84-er. Haven´t played for 2+ months but like the forums and getting things organized.... I´m still at 1000 credits....

Not at the moment. For now, the only well implemented thing is flight mechanics. The rest is more or less mehh or not implemented.

I don't recommend the game, I explain what it's about, I tell them it's far from finished but the most important things I tell them are:
There's this thing called the DDF, the 2nd stands for discussion not decision so just because to read something in the DDF Archives it doesn't mean it will be in game. It might be later and later might mean a paid for expansion.
People read into what's been said what they want to and Frontier are not very good at pointing out when people have got the wrong end of the stick, which results in disappointment.

I would recommend this game, as long as they like space sims, and a game that is half finished, and I don't mean this as a negative thing.
The game is great I like the whole idea behind it. It need a lot of fixes and tweaks but the game is still awesome the way it is right now.
It's hasen't reached it's full potential but that will take a year or longer before it's really finished, only problem is that by then StarCitizen will come out and everyone will start playing that. So if you can't wait till 2016 for a space sim then ED is the best choice.
