Do you think FDev are recording the number of times I farm a Barnacle, for future use against me, via the storyline?

Causal link hmm ?
I certainly hope so, would start to make choices relevant.
But in all honesty i doubt so, because they already created reputation decay to prevent this very case of "OMFG why did i do that ?!?, Ohh noeeess my toon is        d up now !".

I seriously doubt that.

Pulling live telemetry on Player actions has never been done on a regular basis, with the exception of the known Player stats.
Otherwise, they'd have permanent access to all sorts of Weapon Balancing stats etc - which would make their life a whole lot easier.
(other good MMO companies run that 24/7 and analyze the Data on a weekly basis)

Remember the discovery of the Barnacles?
Several Players had previously encountered them before, but it wasn't until the livestream was captured, transmitted and posted into the Forum that Frontier decided "it has been discovered". They were 100% blind to the previous ones due to lack of Telemetry.

Remember the delivery of mass amounts of UAs (Station bombing) that never had an effect until they posted proof right within the Forums (or Reddit) etc. ?
Same reason.

Plus, for storyline purposes none of that would be needed.
That's on 1-way Railroad tracks, long-planned and with Players merely being able to push some tangent sidekicks (for the feeling that they'd have a say) - while the core storyline moving on acc. to the Script unaffected.
In rare occasions, the planned timeline is "disturbed" by unplanned finds that occur too early or internal delays. Then you guys get a bunch of time-filler CGs to fill the void until it's all right back on timeline.

So far, that's how it always worked.
Has its merits. No reason to chase a story... when it's good and ready (and not a Day before that), it'll find you. No Action required.

PS.
Arguably, they could simply use a Filter to identify specific Engineer Unlocks.
Unlocked Palin? Guilty
Unlocked Farseer? Guilt by association (even if you purchased the Meta Alloys)

Easy way to funnel countless Players into a Guilty! bucket and have them hunted beyond Beagle Point by Aliens.

D.B's comment about finding aliens a while back where he said 'depends who's doing the looking' made me think similar thoughts..

Yep! When the aliens show up, they'll be piloted by Frontier employees in souped up alien spaceships. The people who have farmed the most barnacles will be targeted first. The forums will explode into rage with complaints of being griefed by Frontier employees. Polls will be created.
Do you think, A) Frontier employees should have to play blind-folded B) Should be replaced with cuddly space teddy bears that just make a "rawr" sound or C) Should only be equipped with healing lasers.

I don´t think so. That would be too deep for FD, sorry but I am being honest. Source: the mission system.

Many things are documented such as player kills or commodities traded at a specific station. Developers like to document alot of information to understand how their game works with player interaction. I believe they are also documenting barnacle destruction but wheather or not they will use it against you or someone else is a question they probably don''t have the answer to themselves. It certainnly can happenn but at the same time it might just be another documented information noone will ever use.

Completely different problems. A lot easier to come up with Player X destroys Object Y procedurally than developing mission arcs with unique stories and interactions within a procedurally generated universe. The problem with the former is managing the large amount of data generated. Doable but costly.

They can look at the same stats that you can, not sure they'd target a puny individual over targeting an area or system.

Maybe a particular CMDR action is waiting to happen and act like a switch?

If you are paranoid then do a clear save you'll have no history on the servers then (or will you ;))

I also think taking care of "individuals" might not be really working towards whatever Conflict (all Spoilers looked like a Conflict to me) they wish to unfold.
I'd place my bet on an "area- or mass effect".

With CGs all paying out ludicrous amounts of Credits, compared to everything we've seen in the past, it kinda points towards a "mass Conflict" involving repeated, large and costly battles.
Not exactly what I'd expect to see i.e. through the eyes of a lonely Exploration Ship far out and being presented a 1 vs. Alien CapShip scenario...
(cue brave Sir Robin, racing like a maniac towards the bubble looking for a fresh set of underwear :D )

Yes, yes they are, so that when the Momma Barnacle finally emerges from hibernation and finds her children being harvested for station paste and profit, they'll know exactly where and who to send her to first
