Docking Computer doesn't know how wide a Panther II is in certain situations

Hey all,

You know, in some stations, how rather than pads, some of them are replaced with structures that project out into the station? I've NEVER had an issue with them in any ship. Ever. However, using the Advanced Docking Computer to dock a Panther at a station - example, Starlace Station in Minerva for the current CG - the Panther is totally unaware of these and crashes into one of them, depending on which pad is used.

This is just a glancing blow, seemingly one of the Engines hitting it (left side for me) but it takes a good chunk of hull with it - my build doesn't have shields.

I think some refinement to the DC might be needed for the Panther when in such stations. If I'd arrived already badly damaged - quite possible when hauling - it could have destroyed the ship.

The DC has been otherwise just fine with the Panther aside from this.

I have been in and out of Starlace several times and brushed one of those structure once on the way out, causing a very slight dimming of the outer ring of the shield display, my fault I was not paying attention.
I have hit and hung up on internal structures in much smaller ships then the Panther before now.
The ADC is doing a much better job with the Panther than it does with the Cutter.

Agree with OP. The DC seems to have trouble with those towers and advertising signs that the clearly unqualified Starport designers decided to install at inconvenient locations in/around the landing pads. They are intentional obstacles. So land your Panther yourself.

There are issues with angles of approach with the docking computer depending on where you request docking and slow down speed for auto dock.

The Orbis and Ocellus will confuse ships if you are underneath the orbital rings and have to pass through them or fly out and readjust to the entrance. Especially the Orbis as the spinning ring is so close to the entrance of the station.

I have had zero issue with auto dock coming into Star Lace with my Panther, boosting in, requesting the dock, slowing speed and it does it's thing.

on the other hand, I have arrived at an orbis station, requested dock, slowed down, and coming back from the bathroom found my auto dock just bouncing the ship off its nose between the ring and main part of the station and before I could save it, just blew up.

I was trying to see which particular docking bays caused the DC a problem. However, I was unable to reproduce the issue. It's one of the ones in the far rear of the station that was an issue for me, but I've since been assigned pads closer to the front.

I find the DC takes the Panther through the slot at a slight angle every time and just nudges one edge. I wait for it now. I've not noticed shield damage so far though.

I have not noticed it actually touching anything but I suppose that is the cause of the lurch as it leaves which I had put down to the dodgy way it deals with roll.

Update.

My panther has been damaged when auto docking into Starlace. I had to do a different run which drops me into the station with the mail slot outside out of the field of view.

I won't do any testing, but I am thinking the autodock has minor issues unless the mail slot is viewable from the cockpit.

Auto-docking on landing pad 40 in the Starlace station is bad for damaging the Panther Clipper.
