Docking Computer

Yeah I think hella was getting a little confused, there are tons of racks down in the avionics bay, as I mentioned previously, the autoland systems requires a bunch of new kit to be installed, both internally and externally.

My point was that they come with it already built in straight from the production line. :)

Yep.. Regarding ED, Have always thought the DC you should be standard on the larger ships, an option on the smaller ships.

I do, either that or class of ship. The Saud Kruger liners would have them, as would a Cutter, for example.

For the others, make them an optional extra that you pay for when you buy the ship.

I think the DC module is a throwback to the original Elite games, but with the fidelity of the current game compared to the old ones, having it as a module that takes up an internal module compartment is a bit silly.

Software, logic and 0's and 1's all fitting into this:

That's a A320 BAE flight control computer.

Exactly! If you every get a chance or have time to look it up. I recommend taking a peek at an aircrafts avionics bay. There is a module for everything. Radar, INS, GPS, radios, gyros, and so on and so on. Also you have bleed air condensers for avionics cooling. Tons and tons of computers and hardware go into planes. Even spacecraft

Yep.

But that wasn't my point. My point was that modern-day commercial aircraft come with all this stuff straight off the production line. The fact that in game we have to buy a module that fits in any one of the many internal compartments is a bit silly.

I like winding up docking computer enthusiasts.

They're so defensive about it.

I like destroying DC opponents. Their antiquated views on the game in 2018 are beyond clueless, and at the same time hilarious in their uninformed, misguided opinions.

I am reminded of the old saying... "Misery Loves Company". Sorry DC bashers. I don't subscribe to your warped views on how this game should be played. The DC saves me hundreds of hours a year in wasted manual docking time. Time I have put towards earning more money and advancing my account.

Sucks to be you. ;)

1. Opinion
2. No
3. Yes, but so does anyone with a reasonable amount of time in the game.
4. Your time.
5. Talking about measuring manhood. About space pixels? Lol
6. If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing. Chuck Yeager

My opinion is that DC is your choice but a waste of both my time and a slot.

TOTAL FAIL.

Oh so typical of the clueless DC basher.

Next!

Gotta say, if you think a DC is faster than manually landing, you probably still have things to learn.

Nothing is faster than a "carrier landing": gear down at the edge of the pad, big flare and then level-off and you're down.
Very satisfying when you get that perfect, so you don't need any down-thrust to make the landing.

Also, at planetary landings, if you find yourself facing the pad, it's fastest to invert and then do a half-loop above the pad.
Again, if you get that perfect, i's very satisfying.

Course, nobody wants to have to do that 40 times an hour while delivering data - which is when a DC comes in handy.
Fitted a DC to my >850m/sec Viper last night for that very reason.
Besides, it's more fun to watch it land than to land it myself. :D

FD should just remove the option to land manually.

That should spark a bunch of interesting threads...

Anyone who knows about technology and space craft in general will be the first to inform you that manually landing ANY of the ships in ED would never be a reality in the real universe. There are so many reasons why it would never happen, it would take three pages to list just the most popular.

I look at the DC bashers to be as clueless as anyone who would suggest that the Falcon 9 Heavy Rocket would be far more efficient if those recycled boosters were landed manually by a human pilot than being landed back on their pads by some dumb computer.

The fact that such a feat as manually pulling off a successful reentry and landing of the F 9 boosters would be literally impossible to achieve by ANY human being on the face of the earth is just the first fact that makes these dimwit's arguments laughably ridiculous and unrealistic.

I prefer playing in an ED universe that is more realistic and believable. Manual landings have no place in that universe. I tolerate that Frontier allows players to manually land their ships with no AI or automation support.

But that doesn't change the fact that having Unicorns and Fairies in the game would be on the same level in terms of realism and believability.

Was a time when I used a dc in every ship I owned...nowadays I dont use them at all and Im a particular fan of big ships. I can still land faster now than a dc can achieve and would only use a dc if I was multitasking other stuff in the background ^

Im not criticizing those who do use them...use them dont use, no skin off my nose...some the more trollish pvp players will specifically target anyone using them though...welcome to elite ^

When playing elite and drinking beer i can get to kitchen and get a new beer in about the same time it takes the dc to dock a ship....
So weekend flying makes the dc essential..... Take the shield off to fly with it i say.....
Real pilots are forever getting caught drunk at airports so it must be a thing

Also found this pic of an early one.....
How i imagine they are in elite...
Yes i know its a hdd

It fits in the smallest slot, I wouldn't really say it is a waste unless you are flying a sidy or an Eagle. As mentioned above, in open it actually helps at busy starports, I wish more cmdrs would use it. I most definitely don't need that tiny slot to survive in open.

I have a T10 and a Vette. Every slot accounted for and I could use more. Sorry, it's a waste, and it's lazy.

Destroying them how? Is it like running over someone foot with your training wheels? :) We get it, you're lazy, But I look forward to your post complaining about griefers.

I own both those ships. And they both have DCs installed. If you can't build a killer load out that includes a DC, you're doing something wrong. THAT is lazy. ;)
