Does Africa Need Any More Mammals?

I know I'm going to get roasted with this hot take, but now with the Arid pack's reveal, of which every animal has some presence in Africa (even the Sand Cat) I feel like we've got enough African Mammals.

People want a Baboon and I understand that, I was mightily surprised at its exclusion. I figure this will probably be the biggest backlash animal regarding this hot take. There's others that even I want - another Giraffe, another Zebra, Black Eared Fox, a Jackal and Honey Badger. After this last pack though, I'm kind of over it and can do without them. I realize we'll almost certainly get more African mammals, I'm just to the point that I'd actually be okay if we didn't get any more.

Please note I call this for the mammals because I absolutely think there's need for African birds like the Secretary Bird and Shoebill and I still really hope we get them.

So how does everyone line up on possibly the hottest of hot takes yet?

african civet, any species of african mongoose, eland, dik dik, duiker, bat eared fox, springhare, hamadryas baboon, gelada, barbary sheep, barbary macaque, african leopard (yes i know controversial), these are the ones i can think of right now
oh yes, and serval, hyrax, colobus, honey badger, gerenuk (thanks to becks)

I think primates (Hamadras Baboon, De Brazza Monkey, Colobus Monkey, etc.) would still be welcomed. Then something like a Rock Hyrax, which is its own unique thing. Some carnivorans that are still quite iconic like Serval and Honey Badger would be cool to have. If we are getting more ungulates, I do hope they are the more unique ones like the Generuk or the Klipspringer., Dik-Dik and the likes.

how could i forget klipspringer

Monkeys for me, preferably one species of Baboon and two "normal?" species

And no, not instead of SA ones, nor the other way around. I think two species each from those two continents plus Baboon are all essential

Frontier could (even should) start focusing on fleshing out other continents! This is coming from someone who loves Bat-eared Foxes. They are my favorite zoo animal of all time (besides giraffes maybe?). Yet, I think with this newest pack we are pretty complete as far as Africa goes... I mean, doesn't the mandrill kind of count as a baboon?? Ok, after looking it up they are genetically not really baboons. So, Africa could use a baboon maybe. We need African birds but that goes for all continents... And the thread is about mammals. And the baboon occurs in small parts outside Africa. So, as much as I don't want to say it. Yes, I agree.

Yes - I would say we definitely need more mammals before Africa can be considered complete.

Primates are the most pressing inclusion - I would personally say at least three monkeys are required, preferably four (the grivet, the gelada, a guenon and a colobus). Among carnivores, I would also say another mongoose borders on essential - either yellow or banded are my favourite choices. The springhare would be an excellent addition, as would the rock hyrax. I'm not even against getting more antelopes, provided they are very different from what we have already - I would still like an eland, a dik-dik and a duiker.

I think alot of the missing mammals occur outside of Africa as well. Rock Hyraxes, baboons, hedgehogs, civets, mongoose, they all can be found outside of Africa. Even the Eland would be cool but the Nilgai from India could also represent a big cow type antelope.

i hope we get many more years of dlc to have all these amazing animals

Overall the African mammals are really well represented in all biomes. You can always say there are some missing, but are they really needed?I would say mostly monkeys; like a baboon(Gelada) could still be missing.

Birds on the other hand...

Yeah, see that's what I'm getting at. Even in my post, there's animals that I listed that I would still want. But needed is an entirely different thing. The baboon might just be one to put on that list, but are we sure any of the others are really needed, or just wanted?

We need more african mammals from less represented geoups. Carnivores and ungulates are pretty well done.
That's a fair point to make. It's not so much Africa over all, it's the types of African animals. I'd be much more tolerant of more African primates for example. As far as carnivores go I agree, but can see myself being okay with a civet added since one is not in the game. Not needed but would be okay to have.

Critical Need:
The Serval is common in zoos and one of my favorite animals. African Monkeys are needed and really cool. The essentials (for me) include: Colobus, Baboon (probably Hamadryas, which would also add to the Middle East), and at least one guenon. The honey badger is also a very strong pick.

Still Important:
More monkeys (there are so many good ones), a grassland antelope or two for ungulate lovers

Fun Oddballs:
Civet, Springhare, more antelope, Jackals are distinctive and unique for a canid

Useful clones (if support never ends):
Masai Giraffe, African Leopard
