Been doing my bit to kill Thargoids, and I thought I'd pick up a mission to break things up. Surprise! 20 minutes of stupid.

Real flying. This is a video game it's not real flying. I went to the gym and banged out 1500 yards in the pool. I got home and played a different game.Sorry, but what's the issue?
Get up; visit the Little Pilot's Room, make a cuppa, have some toast. Kiss the wife, remember the kids' names, whatever.
20 minutes is nothing in real flying.
An RNG mission generator that generates unfun experiences isn't a problem with the player not gaming the game on its quirky mission generation seeds. It is a design problem. 20 minutes of do nothing before game play is bad design. No objective person is going to say this is good design.Mission USS can spawn any distance roughly equal (usually a little more) to the furthest celestial body from the primary star. So just avoid systems where that's the case.
So is your patience for bad game design. How dare space be big!
That was my mistake, I tried to upload the pic and got an error. The mods can choose to close whichever they like. Why 2 threads? https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/really-annoying-on-a-saturday-afternoon.518294/
All missions with USS can do that - not really a surprise that those ones do as well...
It is a broken part of the game design that needs to be fixed. Instead of spawn location = (rng) x 0.75x system radius, it should be something like (rng)(5kls).I agree but it seems that waste time for the sake of wasting time it is a core and unremovable part of the game that we should not question because gives the illusion of being optional, so better no question it.

What about people that have only 1 hour a day to play?Sorry, but what's the issue?

True, but we need something to do in-between. Hands off is not a good game designGood game design doesn't mean you can do everything quickly. Quite the opposite, in fact.
