Does anyone else hate the name "Elite Dangerous"?

my GF likes to tease me when I talk about it in shorthand as E D. As it sounds like i'm talking about how much I'm enjoying erectile disfunction. She also pointed out how confusing it is to have two ranks in the name.

I don't hate it, but it does get people to say "The game is called Elite DANGEROUS!!!!ONE!!!ONE". That's annoying.

Rep for the oblique Saints Row reference.

Nothing for the OP as this is a silly topic.

Heh, if there was a Fleur de lis decal, I just might paint my Python purple and slap those on it. :D

Come to think of it, a purple Eagle would look like a smaller version of my VTOL in SR3.

Repping OP for the Row reference, rather than the sentiment (I worked on most of the Saints Row games as it goes) :)

You forgot the colon, the colon makes all the difference (to your digestion!). No, really, it's fine. Elite: Dangerous is fine, a bit like Michael Jackson: Dangerous, but less peculiar and deceased.

Come to think of it, a purple Eagle would look like a smaller version of my VTOL in SR3.

Actually, I think the Eagle is about twice the size of the SR3 VTOL if some of the size charts I've seen are accurate (mind you, I might be misremembering the exact size of the VTOL, not one I built).

Google Brigadier General Sargent and you will see that it is not a Rank :)

The google box is your friend!

I have no idea what you mean. Googling each one confirms that the words are used to indicate rank. "Sergeant, sometimes serjeant, (normally abbreviated to Sgt) is a rank used in many armies, police forces, and other uniformed organizations." etc etc.

That's why "Elite: Dangerous" seems weird to me. "Elite" and "Dangerous" are also both ranks, and Elite is the highest possible rank. So jamming them together makes about as much sense as saying "General: Sergeant"
"Elite" just on its own works fine, (eg you can easily imagine a wargame called "General" or "King" or "Commander").
That said, there aren't obviously superior alternatives springing to mind. "Elite 3" is kind of lame (or would it be Elite 4?). "Elite: 3100AD" or "Elite: 3100" could work but isn't clearly better than Elite: Dangerous...
