Does anyone else hate the name "Elite Dangerous"?

Yeah, they're both ranks. It's like "General: Sergeant", Or "Yellow: Orange"

Sergeant Major, Lieutenant Colonel, Lieutenant Commander, Major General, Lieutenant General...Elite Dangerous. Works for me! In fact, since there are people complaining that there are no ranks after Elite I suggest - Elite - Harmless, Elite - Competent, Elite - Deadly....

But Elite is the highest rank, so the analogy isn't "Major General" so much as "General Major". etc. It's just kinda weird. But yeah, I'll concede that combo-word ranks are a thing, maybe by the year 3000 that's how it's done :)

i do not like the name.

Elite IV would have been a vastly better name in my opinion.

But it does not matter much as the game will succeed depending on how good it will become.

As far as I'm concerned, the game might as well simply be called "Elite", (not to be confused with "Elite '84", which is the original) :D

Seriously though, Every time you say or write "Elite: Dangerous", you can simply say "Elite" and everyone knows what you mean. We're actually more likely to be confused if you call actual original "Elite" by it's correct name, instead saying something like "the original Elite" or "'84 Elite"

TL;DR: There is a new Elite in town, and we shall call it... "Elite"! :D

Actually, I think the Eagle is about twice the size of the SR3 VTOL if some of the size charts I've seen are accurate (mind you, I might be misremembering the exact size of the VTOL, not one I built).

You might be right about the sizes. Hard to say without a reference of some sort. :D

I'd love to have my VTOL here, but sadly it's not set up for spaceflight. Wonder if I could put it in the hold on a Python and take it with me for planetary landings? Hehehe

+1 Elite IV would have been better, but I have no real issue with Elite Dangerous. However, the common understanding of the abbreviation ED is..... unfortunate. Especially considering the demographics of the user group (somewhat older males).

I don't hate it but I find it a bit... clunky? Elite 30?

I just call it Elite anyway, it's the same game as the one I played in 1984, except the graphics have almost caught up with the ones that were in my head. ;)

It's called Elite Dangerous because in 1984 we didn't have the cesspool, er, I mean forums full of trolls and other social degenerates to navigate. The name is just reflecting the hazards inherent in playing this version of the game. :p

"Elite: Dangerous" is fine. Kind of like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens". The main title tells you what franchise the game is a part of and the subtitle tells you which title among the franchise it is. If I'd give the title any thumbs down it would be for not being consistent with the previous games.
I'd personally have preferred "Frontier: Elite Dangerous" or "Remember that really cool game you used to play back in the 1980s? Yeah, that. On steroids."

If you think of it as "Elite:" (the game name) followed by "Dangerous" (the rating you need to join the new-rules Elite Federation) then it sort of makes sense. It's still clunky though. I didn't like it from the start and it hasn't really grown on me.

My real bugbear is that so many people misinterpret the second word as an adjective rather than the rating it actually is. Most can be forgiven, because the title's true meaning is a bit obscure and the reasons behind it have only ever been formalised in one buried DDA thread and one David Braben talk video. On the other hand I suspect there are more than a few who do know the real meaning but continue to misinterpret because it serves their agenda.

No, i don't hate the game title, i just dislike when people try to derive any relevance from the title into actual discussion topics.

The ever present "The game is called Elite Dangerous, not Elite blahblahblah"....coz it's utter nonsense imo.
