Does anyone else hate the name "Elite Dangerous"?

That's the only thing about it that annoys me. Necessitates the use of [noparse][/noparse] tags if one wants to use the colon as well to avoid making it look like one's referring to erectile dysfunction.

Elite Dangerous sounds silly actually. It's the "dangerous" part of course that brings the silly, the "Elite" part is fine. Ι wonder how it got past the marketing meetings, as it sounds like a placeholder name before the real one appears.


When I say out loud "Elite Dangerous" I immediately want to say "Serious Sam" afterwards. :D

Only thing wrong with it is it doesn't form a great abbreviation. Since everyone talks in abbreviations nowadays - "ED" doesn't cut it. To be cool it has to have three letters. Like TOR or ESO or DDO or EQ2 or WOW or BF4. So The should have called it Elite Dangerous Online so it had that crucial third letter so everyone could now call it "EDO". Or Elite Dangerous : Destiny (or any other cool sounding vaguely spacelike name). Four or more letters is too high brow, lie LOTRO.

I can see when they release a Thargoid expansion it could be
Elite: Dangerous, Third Encounters.

I was always amused when FFE was released seeing as it would be the second encounter with the Thargoids seeing as they were in Elite :)

If you're going for ranks (particularly the original ones) it's either Elite: Dangerous or Elite: Deadly if you don't want to sound really stupid (Elite: Poor! Elite: Above Average!). It's not the greatest name in the world but I'm not too bothered about it, although it probably sounds worse to those who aren't familiar with the background. I also completely agree with those people who get annoyed every time someone posts "It's Elite: Dangerous wah wah wah".

Elite: Mostly Harmless would be the most iconic. :)
