Does anyone else think the concept of engineers is terrible?

Unless you're playing with words, it's agora, not agro. The latter would be fear of the fields...You really need to get that Agrophobia under control...
If everything was in the same place my Claustrophobia would have a massive flare-up!

I totally agree. I really enjoy engineering. Gathering mats can be an issue but it's part of the experience.It's an old game and it's not like it's going to change
People that felt like you moved to other games (well, some are still haunting the forums)
I personally think Engineers are ok
ED has mmo elements, and engineering is part of career progress.
It not a battle royale game where you get to buy everything you need at the start of the round

Online games are always subject to change. I'm glad FD listened to this particular issue and have revisited it. I've never understood this stance though. The game has been changing consistently since it launched 10 years ago. I'm very glad FD haven't abandoned it so that this stance was merited.

I have an Inara account, and lately, it’s been going wonky, leading me to places with no supply of what I’m searching for (reboot!). The problem I have with engineering is not where or how to find materials; it’s about pinning and what to pin! Reading and understanding, "is this the one I need?" I spend a lot of time trying to figure out if Deep Charge, Mass Manager, or Stripped Down will give me what I need.
I often spend more time reading and web searching than actually getting what I need and moving on to the next bigger thing. YouTube sometimes clears things up, adds confusion, or provides more web resources. I have so many external websites and a few applications to help make the game better, but I know, part of the game is to suck it up. I get it. I also know Reddit r/EliteDangerous seems like another source for questions.
So lately, I’ve been trying to participate in Thargoid activities and watching YouTube. It should sometimes be called UranusTube because everyone has a ship build and an opinion on what ship you should build. So, you build what some Tuber shows you, and you look around, and there is no ship transporter to get my Harley—oops, SHIP—to that side of the galaxy.

It's unclear from the in game descriptions, yes.
Deep charge is for upto size 4 FSDs whilst mass manager is for size 5 and up.
What blueprints to pin depends on what you want to do and which mods you think you'll use most.
For myself there's a particular set of modifications that are common to almost my whole fleet, the exceptions are specific specialist ships.
I'd recommend having a play around in Coriolis or EDSY so you can see what you're getting.

wouldnt that undermine the entire point of the game?
i would go entirely the other way and would like to distinguish more differences between different systems and encourage us to travel to more locations........ tho ideally for me, in a targetted manner. i do get bored v quickly looking for a macgubbin which i know i am in the right system for, but it just wont show up, be it data, or material. hopefully this will improve after the next update.
Maybe, but it would certainly let you get things done quicker!
so would giving a creative mode like minecraft has and allowing us access to everything..... but i just think that would be a terrible fit for this game. maybe it would work for NMS (not convinced even then tbh) but imo elite dangerous - for me at least - relies on the rpg elements of the game and part of that is having to go out and get stuff.
Wait, you're saying that retaining game elements which increase difficulty can also make gameplay more rewarding and even more fun ?

It would have in Elite/FE2/FFE.
There's surprisingly little in Elite Dangerous where being able to move instantly to the appropriate location (at least, say, within the bubble) would make a noticeable quantifiable difference to the game.
- engineering has doubled (and getting closer to tripled) effective jump ranges compared with 1.0
- fleet carriers let you move point-to-point within the bubble (with all your stuff, too)
- both FCs and Apex let you move uninterruptably with relatively little limitation
- SCO makes supercruise times short (and perhaps more importantly, essentially uninterruptable by non-Thargoid NPCs)
The whole game is mostly built around "doing things when you get there" with the travel between them being a formality if perhaps one that helps with "believability" (whereas the previous three games were mostly the opposite). Bulk trade (and related activities) really stands out as an oddity in that respect.
That certainly feels wrong for an Elite sequel, but it's been the case for so long (certainly since some of the changes in early Horizons, but it mostly started out that way too) that the most I can say is that it would undermine the entire point of a different game.

But... (there is always a but!)
I'm quite happy poodling around visiting HGE / USS sources in Cama Zotz for a couple of hours every now & then, or nipping out to the Guardian sites with friends, and having a Wake Scanner on certain ships (all G5 fast scan, I'm not entirely mad!) for lurking in Argi or Tourism systems.
Others have complained that they aren't haulers, or miners, or explorers or whatever, only combat pilots, so why should they have to do something they have no interest in?
The changes tomorrow will help in taking the time collecting down to a bare minimum, althogh I'm certain there will still be complaints about it (too easy, not enough, or whatever)
I'll be interested in seeing which mats are dropped by elite pirates etc. from tomorrow...
for me (note i am only speaking for myself) Elite has always been about the journey, not the destination and indeed sometimes depending on your destination (maybe it is an A rated fully engineered Cutter forinstance) many people race to get there and once there they realise that in reality they cant do anything in that ship that they could not do in any number of other ships that they had ages ago..........
and what Ian said isnt wrong you never had to scratch too far below the surface to be able to completely gamify it, and see that once you have seen half a dozen systems you have seen them all in terms of game progression and you dont need to go anywhere else
(actually the engineers really help here imo but then they added blueprint pinning which suddenly meant everyone was an engineer but your note board could only fit a finite number of recipes on :/ (i never understood that myself - either make us have to visit the engineer every time - albeit give us in game parts lists so hunting them down without out of game tools was easy - or let us pin any and all blueprints that we already have a version of...... the halfway house we got never made sense to me but...........................)
but me personally I champion things to better paper over the surface to make it harder to gamify........... not rip off the veneer that we do already have.

I certainly had more fun in this game when it required more skill, knowledge, and understanding of the game mechanics to get ahead. There is nothing more boring IMO than guaranteed success.
But I also acknowledge that some people prefer to deal with a skill speed bump over a skill cliff. That’s the problem with MMOs. You can’t tailor the rules of the game to suit every individual player.
It just there is soooo much to take in! Right at this moment I turn here (for help), because I am at Marco Qwent trying to figure if Power Dist needs an upgrade. I am losing my mind over it too! I have once again stared at the screen and looked at the numbers, there is no easy answer they seemed to have also made a change with the update that gives less info and I am kicking myself cause before I could at least use an AI model to help cut my time of figuring the best bang for my mats is or was. Anyone have an easy answer for Power Dist?
