Does Anyone Know How Guests Work

So for a habitat, how do guests calculate it's popularity? Obviously elephants are more popular than warthogs, and animals have a species appeal. But if you had two habitats, one with a single African elephant (Base Appeal = 6,750, Total Appeal = 6,750), and another with 9 Greater Flamingoes (Base Appeal = 750, Total Appeal = 6750), which do the guests find more interesting? Or do guests find them equally interesting? Or is it more about appeal per m2 with the habitat size?

I'm trying to figure it out to plan necessary path widths in advance and what areas are likely to be the most crowded.

More often I find it comes down to just the appeal rating whether or not you have more animals in another or a larger habitat. As long as the animal has all needs met and is happy enough the appeal rating grows slightly per animal, such as a happy lion will start off at 7000 appeal but later on it will be 9000. I would focus on the elephant as the potential for growth both in individual appeal and future elephant additions will obviously make that habitat a favourite. Pretty much as soon as one habitat grows into the highest appeal rating, guests will follow to the more popular animal.
