Does docking at a carrier save you last docking postion

On my way to Beagle Point from the Bubble I've docked at only 3 carriers. One in Sag A, one in Beagle Point and one in Ishum's Reach.

So my will my position be saved because I've not docked at a proper station or landfall planet?

Because I'm thinking if I choose to use the self-destruct option, or just kill myself - it might take me right back to the bubble again where I started from? Because I read that docking at Carriers does not save your last docked position if you die.

I've posted this in the wrong section. I'm not playing Odyssey - I'm playing Horizon. There might be a difference between Odyssey and Horizon with it.

Well, yes. But to be fair I want to get back ASAP to start the grind for getting a carrier way back in the bubble where my other ships are. Not bothered about the exploration data gathered, that's already been sold at the carriers in Beagle point and Ishum's Reach. Just in case I ended up doing it. I already have explorer Elite status.

And I've already been from the bubble to Colonia and back 4 times already

Docking at a carrier becomes your last docked location. Find a carrier with ships for sale, buy a sidewinder and suicide to get back, then transfer your ship for a couple of billion to get it back to the bubble, job done! Or, log into non-horizons where there are no carriers and suicide, that'll get you back, well maybe not back, not sure where you will end up, but good luck!

Exactly what varonica says mate.

It won't be cheap to get your ship transferred back, but it's better than nothing unless it's an unengineered pos!

That’s why I had a ship yard when out in the black, to allow CMDRs to do exactly this.

If you in a cheap ship like a DBX you can strip out your ship and self destruct without buying a Sidewinder, choose the new Sidewinder and transfer the components when you buy a new ship in the bubble. Not 100% sure, but it seemed like a cheaper option than transferring the complete ship last time I tried it.

Oh well... if the game restarts you docked at a carrier. Then the only option is like you say. Do one of the other two things. It's only an ASP, but it is fully engineered. So that might still cost around 50 to 100 mill to transfer it back to the bubble. I don't fancy flying all the way back this time because I've already done a trip to Colonia and back to the bubble 4 times now and this is fair bit longer than doing that from Beagle Point.

You might be able to hitch a lift back on someone’s carrier heading back. Store your ship with someone heading back, self destruct and then transfer when they’re closer to the Bubble. I’m too far away to offer assistance I’m afraid.

@GTB

When 'suiciding' you choose the option to forfeit your ship and thus respawning in the bubble in your starter system. So you usually do that in a sidewinder or other unengineered ship; however it can be a problem obtaining one in Beagle point. If you have spares on standyby like i do a transfer can take a couple of day (find FC with shipyard)

Just rebuilding your ship might be a better solution vs spending 2.5 times your ship value for the transfer from BP to Bubble. Unless you do not fly a conda...

But do consider your options.

That is not exactly correct. You respawn in the last docked station which has a shipyard. Only by selecting the "free sidewinder" option do you respawn at your starting system (or Ay Indi if the commander was started in the noob-zone).

(I do freewinder restarts instead of clear saves on death nowadays.)

Okay, there is no option to buy another ship in either Beagle Point or Ishum's Reach - where I came back from just now to Beagle Point again. Only two carriers in Ishum's Reach and neither has a Shipyard fitted. Only two carriers also in Beagle Point are listed as having shipyard installed and neither one is selling any ships. So looks like I've no option but to head back towards Colonia from Beagle Point

Na, that's not really an option to give up the ASP I'm in for the Free Sidewider by using self destuct and start back in the bubble that way (but then lose the ASP totally). I have engineered way too much on this ASP to take that option and lose the ship completely with all the engineering done on it.

I do have a fully enginnered Conda back in the bubble also used for Exploration. And I'd most likely take that out next time, so dunno. Have to think hard about doing this option, as it would mean I'll lose the ASP and engineering done on it (which is a lot done)

Do any of the FCs have Outfitting? Store all your components and then scuttle the Asp.

Hmmm... yeah, Just realised that's an option after my post above. I could unmount all the engineered stuff before self destruct and then pay to transfer it all back to bubble in a few days time. Not like I'd be in a rush to use the ASP again while the equipment is heading back to the bubble

Another possible option, if you have access to a Carrier with a shipyard but no ships for sale:

Transfer one of your other ships to your location (which will take a few days), swap to that ship, self-destruct, choose the freewinder restart, and transfer your exploration ship back to the Bubble.

Expensive, and you still lose a ship, but you can choose which ship you sacrifice. Choose your most expendable ship.

I've done it now. Unmounted all the equipment and killed myself. Now back in the bubble heading to Jameson station to transfer all the stuff too from Beagle Point.

Wow!

Around 100 million to transfer all the ASP Exp engineered stuff from Beagle Point to the Bubble. 53 million alone just to transfer the armour

Imagin putting a 91 million 7a scoop on a conda ;-)
I know, I had a 6A fuel scoop on the ASP and it showed 96 million to transfer it back. So sold it remote. Don't think it's cost that much to buy another new, and the fuel scoop wasn't engineered. Just checked at Jameson's station. 25 million to buy one
