Does Elite still make you manually reduce speed to reach a station?

Hello all,

I tried elite dangerous several years ago. What I didn’t like is that I had to manually reduce speed to reach a destination. I was constantly falling short or overshooting. Does the game still require this or has it provided a way around it? I’m considering purchasing the game

Thank you

Setting 75% Throttle will also engage a partial auto throttle for approaching destinations, this has been available since Elite Dangerous went live. As mentioned above, we'll finally be getting some additional automation to assist with the cruise and approach phase. Elite dangerous has finally caught up with the 1950's ;-)

April 23rd introduces autopilots type things.

But, slowing for a station is as easy as sitting at 100% throttle until the ETA hits 7 seconds, then setting it to 75%.
You'll usually slow down enough to drop safely.
The only time this doesn't work, is if you have to pass by a planet, then the planet will slow you down even more. Eventually this stuff becomes second nature.

But like we said, Supercruise Assist is coming on April 23rd, but it requires a class 1 module slot (probably).

If the information provided so far is correct then it's a win win situation. No one is going to lose a slot if you want to acommodate Supecruise Assist, every small ship will gain an extra 2 class 1 slots to do with as you see fit and medium and large ships will gain 1.

So if you are the type of Commander who wants both Advanced Docking Computer and SA in a medium or large ship, chances are you already have a standard DC so with 1 extra slot your loadout remains intact.

Which really shouldn't be the case since its just enabling hand holding.

Yes, but in just over a week you will be able to carry an optional autopilot to do that for you.

If you don't use the autopilot helper you get to use the slot for some other advantage, like an extra hull reinforcement loaded with thermal resist modifiers.

To be fair, all you needed to do was fly towards your destination at max speed until 6 seconds then drop it to the blue. Then drop when it tells you to.

Or just leave it in the blue and never have to bother with anything but pointing your ship in the right direction and dropping when told to.

So where is the issue? If you have no desire to use it you don't, does it really matter if anyone else does?
The upside of the changes coming is the 'free' slots every ship gains, doesn't appear to be restricted from the livestream comments.
The SCA would also have its uses when flying many 100KLs to secondary/tertiary stars to investigate (or even Hutton) in giving the opportunity to do 'something else' during the long wait... providing you are not in the bubble and in open that is :)

All you ever needed to do was point at the target, set throttle to 75%, then press disengage when it told you to.

It must be, what, a week now, and I'm still astonished that people needed help with this. I just can't even, as they say.

Hi, i love this spaceship flying spaceships game.
But i hate flying spaceships. Do we have a proper auto pilot yet.
I usually play with my little brother. He pilots the ship and i sit behind him giving orders while drinking my weak lemon tea and combing my hair to the side.
Oh how i love flying not flying spaceships in a spaceship flying spaceship game.
While I am a fan of super cruise because it helps us to appreciate the size of star systems, it's not really flying space ships. That's what I do in normal space. In super cruise it's more like staring at the screen for 5-20 minutes without doing anything at all.

Of course, the irony of the situation is that overshooting and looping back is actually faster than throttling down to 75%, and proper gravity braking faster still, and both methods reduces the number of interdictions you'll encounter, because you're spending a lot less time flying in a straight line at slow speeds.
