Does having a roadmap keep you engaged with Elite?

yes, since 1.4. welcome to the club. the game is still cool, you just need to drop expectations. if you can't then move on, don't torture yourself.

regarding pouring cash into the shop to 'support' frontier... well, that's just delusional.

This is the best way to approach lots of things. There's too much rabid fandom turned sour through expectations that didn't pan out as desired, followed by the inability to then move away from a source of bitterness.

"BUT THE DEVS DID/DIDN'T DO THING X" people will counter indignantly. Welp, you can't really do anything about what they can or can't accomplish unless you go get a job with Frontier. You CAN do something about how you deal with whatever game is actually on your hard drive though.

Becoming really angry and bitter for months on end usually doesn't assist faraway total strangers with code implementation, so why bother? Even if you get exactly what you want later, the enjoyment of it will be tainted by all the bitterness preceding. IDW take my own fun away both during all the ranting and then tarnishing the very thing I wanted in the first place, that seems silly.

For me its very simple. Am I happy that the next paid update is 2020 & not 2019? No, of course I'm not. Having said that I have only two ways to deal with this information. I either accept it & "move on" or I stamp my feet and rant & rave on the forums until I'm blue in the face. I have chosen the former option, which is made easier by the fact that I will probably be "out in the black" for at least the next 2-3 months, which will keep me very busy.

Last of all, Stealthie mentioned in a previous post the difference between an Evolution & a Revolution approach to future development. Had the next paid update been in December 2019, I would have strongly believed that FD were going the "Evolution" route-sticking to the existing game engine & using it to slowly release new types of planetary landing & Space-legs content over a 12-18 month period. Something about the 2020 release date-& how it lines up with the next generation of consoles-makes me think they will go the "Revolution" route instead-with a completely new game engine & a much more rapid release of the aforementioned content. I could be wrong, but that is what the evidence is telling me so far.

I guess only time will tell. I do hope they give us enough teasers & in-game updates to satisfy us in the interim though.

Its nice to see some honesty from you! But there's a third way. You can accept how you feel and the reality of what frontier are doing to reflect your personal commitment. You can even say what you mean and be honest. As long as you're rational and objective at least here they are no problems. Sure the white knits we all know will get upset with anything less than perfect, but they are an extreme fringe, and have their place just like everyone else. I think adjusting your own worldview to match and meet frontier is more healthy than being disappointed and choosing to put it aside and see no issues. But that's a subjective choice i guess.

My predictions for the future are its space legs confirmed. Doing interiors of ships and stations (and ground bases?) would seem to match that amount of time at a guess. I wouldn't speculate on a rewrite or anything that dramatic because its illogical to do so from a development standpoint. The first priority would be to use the existing code, and it seems clear that frontier have a different definition of what works than some players anyway.

Yeah Mark, i feel for you. I think everyone is calibrated to their most recent experience with frontier and communication, myself as you know being with the fss, and from that i wouldn't hope news, i know for certain they won't show anything until their probably already planned launch schedule ticks around.

Consider this though. What if they already tried doing everything you mentioned-using the existing code.....& found that it just wasn't up to the task? Maybe that is why the update is now in late 2020, & not Q4 of 2019 as was being alluded to back around August of last year. I've seen it before. A developer pushes along with an existing engine/deadline.....realizes it just can't be done.....then switches to an entirely new engine that will do what they want.....but at the cost of a revised deadline. Heck, even the numbskulls over at Cloud Imperium eventually worked out that the engine they were working with was just not working.

That makes logical sense if the priority was a fully working feature before development realities. The only thing i can suggest is we don't have much proof of frontier finding such approaches acceptable so we'll just have to see what happens.

Also it helps to consider cobra as a comprehensive engine frontier are using for many things. A significant rework of whatever components you're thinking of i'll believe when i see.
