Does this make me weird?

IRL, I'm not exactly well-off. I could only afford the PC I have after a good 18 months saving cash.

Why am I telling you this? I RP hard while I play Elite. I actually RP to the extent where I like being a "poor pilot". My biggest ship will probably be a Type-6... Maybe a Keelback if it ever gets orange paint.

Now, with this in mind, I actually like the idea of just having lvl 3 mods... I'm poor! I don't have the time to scavenge for junk out of Anacondas... I need to feed myself! Lucky that the materials for lvl 3 mods are pretty easy to find.

And look at my PC specs. There's something about my ship being mid-range spec', just like my PC, that I love.

I'm not fussy IRL. I buy ASDA Smart Price all the time, even though I can afford to get their regular brand. I DRINK SUPERMARKET OWN BRAND COLA AND I LIKE IT.

I think it's healthy for me to deploy some elements of my real life, into the game. It makes not having the £1000 toys much easier to accept. When I get what I need for them? Great! But lvl 3, the "average Joe" toys... They make me happy. Easy to get too.

I am a simple man & I am happy scraping by! RP is when this game becomes truly enjoyable. :)

You do know that Asda are planning a new item in clothing; the George Ship Suit (that can be machine washed, but should not be tumble dried (as it will then ruin the shape) for around £75).

Poundland have started selling Kodak power cells. They are surprisingly good, and last well (so long as you get the Alkaline ones, the others have poor longevity).

Makes? No.

Confirms? Yes!

Drinking Cola!!!!

Some years ago where I worked everybody into computers used to keep an eye on the Aldi brochures as they had a habit of selling powerful cheap PCs every 3-6 months.

Yep, they pushed a lot of Medion kit, unheard of in the UK but popular on the continent. I bought one of my first personal laptops - that was a loooong time ago ;)

I earn a relatively decent salary.

I also make a lot of uninformed and potentially useless purchases that offer little value, and am constantly reminded of this by the other half.

Unfortunately, I also play Elite much the same way :)

Poor people don't really own spaceships. I mean, you could be poor compared to other pilots, but compared to someone who doesn't even own a spaceship, you'd be considered to be pretty rich. Unless a spaceship is somehow cheaper than a car and a nice apartment.

I hardly consider a spaceship owner poor, you would be poor if you only could afford a rover :p

I'm poor as well compared to many other players with at least 2 Anacondas and 3 Pythons, I don't really care about credits so much.

Best gaming approach, IMHO.
Also works well in life. The alternative is to fixate on earning, to the exclusion of life experiences, health, and happiness.

Arianna Huffington is trying to monetize the idea of the "third metric", and the revolutionary idea that people should sleep when tired. She's a multimillionaire who's trying to live like me, while selling the idea for money. She'll never get it, but you have, OP. Cheers to you.

Looks to me you've found zen of this game, honestly.

That's just it. So many people trying to be "The Greatest Pilot in the Galaxy"...

Not me. A Cobra Mk III & a sense of adventure is all I'm after.
