General / Off-Topic Does your workplace block theforums? Mine does, now.

I was visiting the forums regularly while at work. I'd link directly to them without going to the "frontier.co.uk" first and it worked for a while. Now it's blocked. I guess some IT dude or dudette decided to actually look at what "https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=29" actually is. Funilly enuff tho "Maxim.com" is still allowed. [haha]

At my last place of work (I'm a contractor) I could visit these forums, but anything tagged as 'games' was blocked. So often I would get blocked when clicking a link on here.

The only computer at my work is in the bosses office and even it is only allowed to access the corporate private network.

I suppose I could use my smarty phone but my hands are too busy working to dilly dally around on the interwebz.

I remember our boss tried to ban mobile phones altogether, so we posted his private buisness number on the back of every single toilet door we could get to or force the apprentice to go into in a twenty mile radius...along with various messages which might encourage phonecalls between the hours of midnight and 6 am.

Course, we all suffered in numerous ways fer that one but he never tried to ban us having our phones again...some lines are simply not crossed ^

Use command line and ping https://forums.frontier.co.uk.

put the I.P address into the browzer and not the DNS name.

Sometimes that works.

I guess Maxim.com is all about Machineguns of said Mr. Maxim? :D

Work from home so no :D

However, Russia is a pain for certain sites. Linkedin you need a VPN/Proxy to reach because the Russian government demands sites that store personal information store it in Russia.

eddb.io is also strangely blocked, but presume that is because its in an IP range that is close to another blocked site.... i can't imagine the Russian government having anything against eddb.io directly.

github.com?

Be right with you.

May be, can't remember. It is unblock on my computer at the place I'm working at the minute but then everything is unblock on my computer, being a IT admin has it perks.

My boss once a couple of years ago threatened us all at work that the next time he catches someone playing with their phone or uses internet for personal purposes would be fired on spot, one of my colleagues the first thing he did after this discussion was to play clash of clans on his phone, me i keep using internet whenever I have the time for it, either because I have finished my job or I don't have anything else to do but I never watch youtube or videos nor i ever frequent any social media sites. Just to be clear i never missed a deadline and I've been working for 9 years for my boss. It helps that we only see him once a week and for only 3 seconds just to say good morning.
