Doing what I set out to do

From inside it was an imposing sight:

Didn't realise just how steep it was until I glanced at the terrain radar... I fell off a couple of seconds after getting this image:

but the view from the top was spectacular:

Love the crater!

I plan to do another bucky ball run today...I don't even look at the system, as this would inevitably slow me down when I see the shinies... :)

Thanks! :)

I'm here all week.

Ooookay.

Just jumped into a system..... got an unexplored world 17.9691 Earth masses and a 19,579km radius. Looks like an ice world. Bets on the gravity? Should I even try and land?

Ooh. Right next door is a ringed HMC with 4 x Earth mass.....

Found the strangest Water World yet:

I have named it Misty World.

Well, I really HAVE done what I set out to do :D

When I first made my way to BP I did so along the northern edge trying to find a system over 65KLY from Sol before I hit the meridian (0 line). This time I did it :)

I got to HYEAE EOQ CT-O D7-0 (that's a mouthful) which is 3,810 LY East of the meridian and 65,010LY from Sol :)

I've actually got slightly further: DREECKIA KD-K D8-0 which is 65,050LY from Sol but only 3,790LY East. There's one star here and absolutely nothing outside of me.

I think I just became the lonliest guy in the Galaxy.

Awesome thread. Will have to rep when I get back to the PC.
But anyways how much are you struggling to find polonium? I spent like weeks in the formidine rift area collecting mats to jump further and not once did a damn polonium grace me with its presence.
I eventually got so exhausted and careless from hundreds of km srv twitchy driving, I ended up smashing my dbx on a high g.
I am now so sick of the srv I'm considering leaving it for next trip.

They seriously need to include ship sensors that roughly scans a huge area and reports what materials can be found.

Thank you for that :) I wasn't sure if anyone was finding my inane wittering and wandering at all interesting!

Funny thing about polonium is that I struggled while in the main body of the galaxy but seem to keep finding it now I'm out at the edge. I've still got enough mats for 20 double length jumps at the moment so there's no worry about getting back.

Not sure what to do now. I'll probably wander back to BP and see what my maximum distance can be.

I've been navigating by selecting the various level of boost jumps and seeing what turns up on the galaxy map. If there's nothing when running 200% jumps I know I can't go any further...

Except...

My maximum possible jump range is 70.54LY and there's a system NORTH of me (and over the 65,000 line) that is 70.56LY away! So I need to burn some fuel... can I make the jump after choosing a premium boost if I burn some fuel off? It's only 2 jumps anyway, so there and back won't be a problem, but I'll be 100s of LY off the edge if I make it. :S

Omgomgomg! It worked :D
HYEAE EOQ GZ-M D8-0. 65,117.96LY from Sol.
I've just joined the league of idiot explorers.
A couple of images to show I really am the lonliest player at the moment:

Congrats Cmdr...hopefully you can push it out even further...

Are you trying to get me floating off towards Andromeda? There's nothing near me at the moment and I've checked thoroughly this time. If I'm going to find anywhere more isolated I'm going to have to try elsewhere. I'm 5000LY from BP at the moment and would like to be there for Jaques' arrival... I might wander Westward and see if I missed anything.

Out of curiosity Traveller, are you still up in the vicinity of Beagle trying to push out? Close to the zero meridian? And what is your best distance from Sol so far?

I got a personal best of 65,427 lys from Sol during Beagle week. Others have gone farther out and I'm sure I might have been able to as well, but I was in a 33.3 ly Asp and was wishing for more range, so I'll return one day in a longer distance Anaconda to break my record.

This is the sole reason that I want an Anaconda myself.

I have to say: the feeling of disconnection is really quite palpable. I'm a couple of hundred light years off the main Galaxy body now and the sense of isolation is real. Look up the system and see if you can spot nearby systems.... there really are none.

Hmmm... I guess I could go back and go for a personal distance record. I got to 65,373 I think it was last time, just a couple of systems further out than BP. I wasn't so much interested in maximum distances at the time, I just wanted to find something to tag! :)

Quite agree traveller. The most memorable part of DW for me was going further than Beagle's Point and leaving no margin for error with my jump mats to get back to connected space.

Really we should be seeing how far we can get from Saggy A, not Sol. That would give a better indication of how far out we actually get. I'd like to go to the western point next.

I'll check that when I sign on next - didn't actually occur to me to do that. I've been *very* careful with my jump materials; I've still got 20 premium jumps available which I what I had when I got to BP. Essentially as soon as I use them I go looking for replacements.
