Dolphin: next easy ship to make huge amount of credits?

Hey,

I buyed the dolhpin yesterday with some fitting Setups and have to say, that the passengers are a really good Option (maybe the best) to make credits now.

First of all, the Main 25,5ly with my fitting (not eenginered) is a quiet Good jumprange. With some apecs you are also able to get a srv, a advanced Scanner and also enough capacity for passengers.

So i did some travel missions yesterday and it worth the money.
I made about 8 Million credits in an hour (which i payed in total for the ship) and have a lot of fun with it. I think when imake some improvement i can earn more. The Sound when boosting is a bit weird but that is the only con of the ship.

Did you made some experience with passengers in 2.3? I have to say, that i don't see any nerf, maybe 2.3 is a buff in total (cause of the higher jumprange of the ships).

In total: passengers are good fun now!

I want to love the Dolphin, but it has one key problem for passenger missions: it isn't an Asp Explorer. In beta, it seemed to me that you'll be able to take noticeably more passenger missions with a Class 6 First Class cabin (what a mouthful) than with a Class 5 Luxury (or First), and the Asp has better jump range too. That's before mentioning the smaller niceties: handles better, doesn't overheat when turning on a planet, doesn't have absolutely useless weapons, etc.

Obviously, the Asp is the more expensive ship. The Dolphin definitely still has a place. But it's a little bit of a shame that it can't at least match the Asp at the one game it's focused fully on (passenger jobs).

It seems to haul pretty well, even with D rated thrusters.

What's a good passenger cabin loadout to capitalize on passenger missions?, or do people just swap and change cabins to suit what missions are available?

Stopped off at Jameson's last night and got me a fully loaded Dolphin which I've named 'Ecco' I didn't have the Arsenic for a grade 5 FSD upgrade yet but it should be well into the late 30's/Early 40's when done (27 for now with only a 9% upgrade) And boosts to 440 with Grade 3 Clean drive tuning. Quite pleased with it for now, looks to be more passenger transport missions that pay decent money which is nice, spent a lot of time doing and enjoying the sight seeing tours.

Liking my Dolph, now have early 30's range (also missing arsenic!), nice & nimble. Not really fair to compare with Asp as it's a much cheaper passenger craft.

I was planning to fit it out with prison cells (as they were listed in release notes), but no sign of 'em so far - was looking forward to throwing any griefing MCers into the brig :)

This is true. Still, I bought a Dolphin last night and I like it, she’s a fun little ship to fly. I threw in the 49% boosted 4A FSD from my Cobra IV and with no other mods my Dolphin now gets 42 lys with both an SRV and a 5D passenger cabin installed, not too shabby at all. I should be able to squeeze a few more light years out of her yet with a few lightweight mods.

Yes, the Dolphin will never be better than the Asp for doing sightseeing passenger runs. I don’t care though, I’m still going to fly my Dolphin for every tourist passenger mission I take, unless they are very deep space runs like +10K or something, in that case I’d grab the Asp for the extra range. But 42lys isn’t bad at all for a cheap, small, stylish and super fun ship to fly. Plus that boost sound is just smile inducing, and the cockpit is so very nice.

My only real complaint about the Dolphin, and about the Orca and Beluga too, are the super tinted canopies. You can’t see into the bridge at all from exterior views. I wish the glass was more opaque and less “black”, though I admit it’s a small & petty complaint mostly.

I don't normally like pax missions.
I bought a dolphin to have a look at and I might start doing some.
Sounds like an actual dolphin through my headset which is fun.
It's fast, agile and has the right amount of cabins to do a few well paid runs without taking on too many missions at once.
The dolphin is the thing I was least bothered about in the new update but I'll be talking out 'The Porpoise of Life' when I get some free time and engineering it.

I might do the same. I really don't like flying my Asp Explorer. Like the Python, I just feel it's too... obvious. Guess I'm shallow. I've made Exploration Elite, and I have enough cash unless I want to be able to afford a combat-kitted Anaconda any time soon, so I might do the same as you and use a Dolphin for sightseeing tours just because I like the ship. I wouldn't complain if luxury cabins were made a little more useful though.

I get what you mean, but it's amazing on the Orca with the Black Friday paintjob. I'm still planning to go back and see how viable it'd be to use a multi-role over a multi-role Clipper, and far too much of why I want to is the aesthetic of a Black Orca.

I am absolutely LOVING the Dolphin.
I bought my first one right after I logged in and made sure my keybinds weren't borked.
And I rigged it as an Exploration ship: https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/dol...==.Aw1/kA==..EweloBhBGA2GAsICmBDA5gG2SGF9A===
And promptly flew the loop to have it Engineered from here to next week.

I wound up with a 39 / 41.5 Ly jump range and a top boost around 426 (FSD Range G5, Dirty Drives G3 - Professor Palin, I'll be seeing you soon..) and was even able to use a Low Emissions Power Plant and maintain suitable power levels, so it runs ice cold as well. In handles like I've come to expect from Saud Kruger ships, and the thrusters are quite effective.

As for the boost sound... hands down the Orca has the best boost sound ever, but the Dolphin..

Well, the Beluga sounds like a hippo giving breech-birth to a fully-quilled porcupine.

The Dolphin sounds... really excited to boost, and that's about the only description I can think of.

I bought a Dolphin, fitted luxury cabin then engineered the FSD to give me 30Ly. However, while I was planning on doing some passenger missions (I like them), I particularly wanted to take advantage of the luxury cabin. Unfortunately, no worthwhile missions appeared for this (I was at Jameson Memorial, and allied with three factions, friendly with the rest), so I gave up. First class seems to be the way to do, which means that I'd be better off using the AspX.

I liked the Dolphin (and agree that the boost sound is weird), but unless there are decent passenger missions that require a luxury cabin, I don't see much point to it - I'm better off using my AspX (as it can fit more cabins, and is much faster).

I just A specced a Dolphin named Flipper last night. Going to take it to pick up some materials and engineer it for jump range and speed.

but it has one key problem for passenger missions: it isn't an Asp Explorer.

That's not a problem, it's a bonus! :D

I'm currently engineering my Dolphins. My main is all A rated and really just for fun. My alt is set up for exploring and currently at 46 ly without much effort. Once I've gathered some more mats and data I'll be having another go, and hopefully I'll hit 50 ly.

The view is much better than the Asp, and I just love the sound of the boost (I know, i'm easily pleased).
