Once you've racked up the credits, exploration can give you a different goal, if "spreading your name throughout the galaxy" is something that tickles your fancy (the "Discovered By" and "Mapped By" tags). It also gives you goals via the Codex - collect all the cards, or better yet, get a card with your name on it!

CMDR Montega probably means player miners.
If you want something altruistic to do, you can always become a Fuel Rat

I never exclude PvP or PvE as suitable targets,
as long as your encounters are profitable,
worthy of your time and enjoyable.
Piracy is not only a way of playing the game,
it is a lifestyle in E:D.
You might want to add some criteria to that. Hull tank?Shield tank? Fixed or Gimballed weapons? Preference for manouverability over offense/defence? There's a lot of variables.

You could earn more than that with a single successful outing in a core mining Python when looking for Void Opals. Anywho, regardless of the credits, if you haven’t cracked a rock yet you should really try it. Heaps of fun.
What other content were you looking for? Exploration, Thargoids, CGs, Rares trading, mission running, PVE combat, dip toes into pvp, race around in the srv? There’s a fair bit. Anything you’re leaning towards in particular?

It can fight pretty well (a little light for most pvp) and take on any non Thargoid NPC all the while collecting materials as they appear. It’s also got an SRV and SLF. Good thing about it is you’ll be able to get your engineering done pretty steadily just by bumbling about the bubble at your own discression.
