Don't inject player groups in rare goods systems

Maybe injecting player groups into rare good systems is done by purpose. The idea maybe is, having conflicts between players is some kind of valuable content. Even further thinking, actually I believe I am not to much against it. The opposite I would not prefer, which is, the different play styles and groups (traders, BGS, miners,...) are tried not to overlap so everyone can play in its own niche of the game. This would be boring and unrealistic.

On the other hand I can understand how frustrating it is to see its own effort thrown back for days, weeks or even more. Again I think this is some kind of realism in the game but actually I am unsure if this kind of realism is desirable in a game. It is enough to be frustrated in real life. Maybe thats why we are here to play the game.

Hmm, I realise I don't have answers just questions on this topic.

Last time we liberated Gilya, it took 5 weeks to achieve. This was with several people doing this every day, and no active opposition. It's a busy system, with several Fed factions, so just random trade, missions and PP grinding have quite an effect. The Fireflied player group appears to be a fair size, just going by the effect that they are having on the BGS in a short time. Opposing them would just be frustrating for all players involved.
No, it wouldn't be creating much fun for players.

solving the issue

Hello, I am one of the founding commanders of The Fireflies. We have recently been made aware of the issue regarding the rare goods found in the Gilya system. I must say: we have no desire to thwart the hours upon hours of efforts made by commanders to make these rare goods available and we personally have no interest in seeing them removed from the market. Soon we will create a forum thread to collect ideas and find an ideal solution to what is apparently a persistent problem in the Elite Dangerous universe.

When the thread is created we will attempt to post a link here.

No response from Brett or anyone from FD to my PM, or this thread either. I might make a thread or two on other forums. If there's still no response, I might start resorting to irony.

I've no doubt that Brett gets mountains of PMs, and then needs to wait on a response from the Frontier team concerned... who probably need time to discuss it with other people. And to be realistic, it's probably not quite made it to the top of their to-do pile yet. I'd give it a week at least..... and then "let slip the dogs of irony" :)

Greetings CMDRs My name, of course, is CMDR Sly killer 9136 of The Fireflies and it has come to my Attention that our presence in Gilya isn't well liked. Going over the thread has made that very prevalent and we at The Fireflies would like to find some way around this with all sides coming out with what they want. From what we've disscued in our wing we would like to organize a CG (if possible) to legalize its sell and production of the rare comodity in system. We were not made awear of the cmoddity would be removed till after we've made our commitment to the system. We've waited two long monrths to get a system and we wouldnt like to have all that been for not as I'm sure you all would have the same for the work youve done to have the comodity back on the market.

Appreciated. You guys aren't the ones being blamed. FD have created this mess. Unfortunately, there may be some players who see it differently.

A CG is a good way to resolve this. I'm happy to help write one if you like.

To help with a CG. While you are at war in Gilya, can you get the names of the Gilya Law contacts? I only know the Allied one, as I have been allied before they were added. You guys could probably even get the unfriendly and hostile ones.

If you could help us that would be great! My account here on the forums still limits me greatly as the forums still count me as a bot. Regardless I'm still new to going to the forums and what not so I would need assistance on writing one up. Also on getting those who are aligned with Gilya law would be taxing but I'll see about getting those names.

Noti (Master Chefs) have a new player faction - Corporate Federation - is that going to mess them up?

I've checked the player faction in 9 Aurigae, they don't make Saxon Wine illegal. That's fortunate, since they were completely unaware that they had a rare good in their system.

Hello, Mr Lizard. :)

I see an opportunity here. Instead of trying to stop this sort of thing from happening, would it not be better to use this to improve the economic diversity and value of rares?

If a faction - player sponsored or otherwise - gets control of a system and blocks the trade, the rare good currently disappears. If ED's population were real people, however, I would generally expect it to pop up somewhere else, albeit perhaps more difficult to obtain and certainly with a higher price-tag.

If a faction takes over a system and bans something, have the rare good appear in one or more nearby systems, maybe on the next update day. Perhaps only available via the black markets, or perhaps openly, depending on the aggressiveness of the banning faction. Friendly or Allied status might be needed to get an allocation.

The larger the area taken over by the banners, the further away the good gets pushed, in increasingly smaller quantities spread out over increasing numbers of venues, the more it's worth and the more it sells for, assuming you can survive the inevitable increase in NPC pirates. In the most extreme cases, you might find just one or two of the item many light years from it's source, every now and then, but promising epic danger and reward, if you're brave enough to buy it.

It seems like something that would not be very difficult for Frontier to do and would add a lot to rare trading, which currently lacks much in the way of variation and excitement.

What do you think, Mr Lizard? :)

This is one of the options that I have suggested to Brett. Quoted in post #14 of this thread.

Buying goods that are illegal and smuggling them out of a station would only add to the fun. Selling stuff from a blackmarket would take very little effort for FD to achieve.

Turns out there is yet another rare goods system that has been given away by FD to a player group that will remove the rare good. Terra Mater is apparently now the home system of the Elite Division.

To add insult to injury, Terra Mater is a permit system.

Maybe because it happened before they added the rules covering that?
It's possible. I don't know when they were added.

The effect of player groups on rare goods is bad enough, but permits is actually far worse. The Phekda permit was completely broken by the Ancients of Mumu being added into Phekda. The game completely stopped giving Phekda permits, so the player group had a system where they couldn't ever be challenged. FD eventually removed the permit. So the game slowly loses content.
The worst thing with what was done in Phekda is that it is right in the centre of Alliance space, next door to Alioth. It made sense to have a pirate group in a permit system, but replacing it with an independent player faction makes no sense at all.
