Don't know where else to post this. Thargoid return.

Hey guys. I'm not so new to the game. Been playing consistently since may. Ive been keeping up best I can with the lore and events surrounded the thargoids. I've been to Maia, checked out some barnacle sights and what not so I'm familiar with what's going on.

My disappointment so far is not having the ability or knowledge to get involved with the events that are unfolding. I always wondered how cmdrs discovered the first barnacle site or crash site just by chance in this huge galaxy.

Long story short. When this patch comes out is Maia a good place to be to see the doo-doo hit the fan? I want to be involved with the lore or at least see it first hand instead of watching YouTube.

Seems like Maia or the Pleiades in general is where something is going to happen if it does. Any info or insights by you more experienced players?

A common complaint. Best way to find things: keep your eyes open - look in the nav panel when you enter every system and check out things if you don't know what they are - I found a completely new Bulk Cargo Megaship last week in the bubble this way - v.random. Also spend weeks looking for Guardian sites without finding any.

For the more organised searches (like all the thargoid / guardian sites) follow the Canonn threadnaught for info. At the moment it's pretty boring but it becomes the clearing house for new information when things kick off - watching the subreddit and maybe some of the discord channels is also worth while, but they tend to get reported back to the threadnaught quite fast.

A place to be: word on the street is Maia would be a good place, so somewhere in the Pleiades. I would think a ship with the longest jump range would be useful for the start as puzzles often involve following listening post messages.

Or else nothing will happen ;)

Maia/merope has been the epicenter since the first evens in season 1. I have moved most of my fleet there as I indeed expect it will start there. :)

The 1st barnacles were discovered purely by accident by some guys having fun canyon running. They were not even looking.

Canonn mega thread is were it all happens, but it is way too much for most people. You could keep an eye on the first page, or join the Canonn discord. Anything new is posted on the news almost instantly. You can then choose to dive in, or ignore it.

Maia and the general area is a good choice for getting yourself destroyed by pretty new things in 2.4

That's my plan. If the poo hits the fan I don't mind a rebuy or two to get owned by a thargoid. It'll be cool just to say I was in the first group of people who went into it shooting from the hip.

Fun fact. I actually discovered the atlas lost ship thing completely randomly. I googled it to see what it was and it was discovered literally 12 hours before me. I was disappointed to get that close to having my name in a bit of history. Other than that that's the only interesting thing I've found. But exploration bores me so I know I'm at a disadvantage in discovering stuff.

I have hauled a few ships out to HR 1185, Ceres Tarn has a shipyard. It is around 20ly from Maia. Mind the landing though as it is 4.1g ;). There is also a Fed base in a nearby system with a shipyard if that is more your persuasion.

I was pleasantly surprised by the available missions as well.

If it helps then I have been playing since release and have yet to see an alien ship that is not wrecked and yet to visit an alien base. I've only visited ancient ruins/barnacles/wreck sites by first locating them through the mega thread. Given how hard many of these things are to see even when close to them versus the size of the search space I have great respect for those who spent many hours looking for them. I am too busy with my own personal goals at the moment to go Alien hunting, but there is time...

A lot of it for me was just lack of equipment and money. Even now I'm still mostly un-engineered outside of a few level 3 fsd upgrades. I wasn't Worried about alien hunting when I could afford to fully outfit the few ships I had in my fleet. I still can't afford the 8a power plant for my anaconda lol.
