Don't miss out on the Titan community goal

Much talk of Difficulty not much about “Fun”; combat complexity gameplay isn’t my thang but the rewards are Exploration FSDs which i would use to have Fun.
It’s just a game; I have real life to force undesirable activities on me.
But if it keeps the game alive HuRRaH!!! Caustic gods are worshipped.

I think i have to give credit where credit is due: for the longest time, AX combat was exactly how you describe it: grindwall after grindwall, merely to be able to access it. It was one of FDs very traditional big mistakes. (Without that grindwall, i would probably be looking forward to my eigth AX star, instead of the first. But when they first put in the titans, i saw that merely being able to go for them would require me to spend my gaming time of two weeks. So i then would be able to see the new content. Thus i concluded, that it was yet one more content patch of ED which had "best played on youtube" all over it. )

Now, i merely went to the rescue ship, replaced my weapons and utilities with with the AX equipment for sale there. Did no engineering or anything. (Check my postings above. My ship is faaar from what the AX people advise to use. But it is what i had at hand and felt like using. And despite being very non-meta, still carrying shields and a fighter hangar (!), i was able to go there and do stuff. ) So the biggest effort for my first attack run was actually: to travel there. And i also got to say, the thing is hell of confusing at the start. You have to figure out things to do. (Or, like i did, find some people already there, copy what they do... sure, i made some mistakes, did not survive the first few tours, but i learned. )

And doing so was hell of an experience. It was real fun. One can just wonder how much more people would enjoy this, if FD would not first have followed their boring old "any new content first requires ages of stupid grind" approach. But right now, with the AX gear being there for mere credits, it is accessible and actually fun. :)
It still has a learning curve. But compared to the learning curve when coming to ED and learning the basics of combat, it actually is kind of tame. Even an untrained casual pilot like me, who took several months of a break, can get into it again with limited effort. I sure won't be one of the top aces there, but i can contribute.

So yea. I stand by it, as long as it had all the grindwalls, the AX content was best played on youtube. Now that it is actually easily accessible, i can say that it is fun and i would advise to take a look. (And i still wonder if somebody using an SLF could also get contribution to the CG. If he does i could even offer people to join and pilot my fighters when i am there. After all, i still drag the SLFs around for no other reason than i spent very limited effort on changing my ships configuration. If it helps people getting contribution, they would suddenly have some value. :D )

Watched a couple of videos on YouTube... nah I never got into Thargoid combat. Never enjoyed pvp raiding in any game, it just seems like too much effort to memorize all these mechanics. Lots of other fun things to do in Elite.

My suggestion would be as follows:
  • Snip
Thank you for that, i managed to get within flight range of the Titan, and the credit messages were going off, but i think that was for the rest of the zone as i didnt survive long enough to hit the pineapple.

am i correct that the yellow is just for the cash reward, and the blue on the left counts toward the items ?

Did you earn any bonds? Actually have to hit (shoot) the ejected core (pineapple) for it to count; easiest way to know is whether it generated bonds as a result.

Unfortunately you haven't done enough damage, as it seems. It sounds like you are trying your luck in open or a PG, because there you'll often see credit messages when they won't really apply to you. It is still kind of buggy there. I'd actually suggest to do it in solo, as scary this may sound on first glance. Solo is pretty quiet and chilly when it comes to goid activity and also less faulty (if I write "less bugged", that would be kind of a punny tautology, right?).
The blue bar on the right shows the progress of titan destruction, with the tiers being pretty much the hearts. There are still 6 hearts left, keep on trying, the DBS build shouldn't be too harsh on the rebuy. You can make it!

The yellow is your contribution, zero, the blue is the total contributions from everyone.
The bit under your current reward highlights how many credits you will get and the blue vertical bar shows progress towards Titan destruction if it reaches the top we get FSDs as long as we have made a registered contribution.

Hello all, I have just returned to ED after almost a year away. I am not much a combat pilot, and I have never fired at a thargoid, but I thought I could probably try this CG. Yesterday I decided to try to participate with my second commander, who is residing in the Bubble for participating in CG:s. I bought a Python Mk 2 for him, because of the SCO FSD, and because his Anaconda is too expensive to have it exploded possibly multiple times. The I spent the whole rest of the day preparing the ship for this and reading instructions on how to do an attack on a Titan. Then I stopped to think, is the Python Mk 2 the right ship for this purpose. Today I found out that it probably is not. The Anti-Xeno Initiative recommends a Krait Mk 2 for almost all purposes. I also watched two ship build guide videos by CMDR Mechan, one video for a Python Mk2 and another for a Krait Mk 2. He says the Python Mk 2 is "squishy". So does that mean I should now change my plan and buy a Krait Mk 2, and start the module gathering and engineering tour again?

In any case, this CG is by far the most diffuclt CG in which I have considered participating. The threshold of participation for a trader-explorer pilot is very high. This CG looks like it is meant for experienced and dedicated AX fighter pilots. I could as well buy my SCO FSD:s later for credits. My primary commander will do so in any case, because he is over 5 400 ly out, mapping a very little explored area of the Perseus Arm in the Elysian Shore region.

The credits reward isn't half-bad either. As of writing this, the CG is at tier 4, and the reward for the top 25% is 100 million cr. There are 8 tiers in total.

(Sure, the people in the top 25% have already made billions in combat bonds, but anyway.)

I bought 55 000 Arx and used half of that for the pre-built Krait Mk 2 "AX Titan combat jumpstart". Next I will check if I can do any remote engineering to it and then I shall head to Sol.

My Bubble alt is running a Python Mkii. She has more firepower than the Krait, but isn't quite as robust. If you can stay out of the 'goids way this isn't a problem.
Though once they do get hold of you they will do noticeably quicker damage.
The extra utilities make getting through the maelstrom easier, apparently there might be human NPCs with limpets to repair you on site which should improve staying power, but otherwise you need to keep your eye on your hull when they find you and be prepared to withdraw for repairs.

Not really. 'Only' made ~ 700 millions in bounties (and another 2 billions in passenger fees). Being new to AX combat, I struggle quite a bit fighting interceptors. But compared to that, I find titan bombing to be a piece of cake, thus I easily made it into the top 25%

Idk, the entire process is fun but you don't contribute anything when shooting the vents.
All it does is open up the thingie wich other people then shoot and get the bonds.
So i'll be sitting somewhere cold and just snipe shoot the thingie when it comes out.
Or maybe I'll just fly around with repair limpets to randomly repair cmdrs.

Anyway, rant over... yes the rewards are worth it!

When I first engaged with more recent Thargoid stuff, I went for a support role, i.e. repairing others etc. while staying cold and stealthy myself. It was fun, but my contributions counted for nothing of course. It would have been good to be rewarded for helping out in that way. I.e. Commander Hull Points Restored, Caustic Removed sort of thing.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still of course fire off a limpet if anyone is in need, but I'm also there to do damage. Though it is a shame you get nothing for helping in other ways, especially when it comes to shooting the vents.

How should I maneuver my ship to evade the interceptors that interdict my jump to Sol? There were two of them, and they had red parts in their leaves. I think they were the Basilisk variant. They were faster than my pre-built Krait Mk 2.

I also apparently made a mistake when selecting which ship to rebuy. I selected the pre-built ship, which redeployed for free, but in the process I lost three units of 3C Advanced AX missile racks, and all engineering I had done to the ship. :(

Good luck everyone, I can't get near the titan. There are so many interdictions plus pulses I run out of sinks and hull. I've attacked and bombed before but now it seems impossible. Open, solo etc I just run into a never ending cycle until my supplies are gone. Never had this happen before

I found quite comprehensive instructions here in the AXI Flight Guide. But I have to say, it is a bit discouraging if I have to spend many hours learning and practicing thargoid combat only to be able to reach the Titan. Thargoid combat is not my thing, but I want to participate in this CG.

Make sure you have the correct neutraliser. Maybe if you were hunting 'goids last, it's the wrong one?
