Don't need VR Legs, but since Odyssey won't even allow VR Flight, guess this is end of the road for many :/

Super disappointing i agree, but shortly after this was announced i started looking at other games and bought No Man's Sky yesterday....I heavily encourage anyone here with a VR headset to try that game. Its very very fun in VR. FD wants to abandon VR for all upcoming content then it's time to put our money elsewhere :)

Hello games has been saying hold my beer (I can afford loads as I suckered a load of people to buy the game with a bunch of lies), while he turns a complete turd into a a not so complete turd of a game. In my view, it's still not a patch on ED, but if you like NMS, go for it. I just don't see the attraction.

Frontier has also slowed down updates and most can agree on that. They also used Elite and Vr users that were lead to believe it will always be supported but while they were holding Hello games beer they decided to take a huge chunk of funds to play with dinosaurs and farms and rollercoasters.

It's ok to call out Frontier for what it is......as a Vr only user there is a feeling of betrayal if the news is correct about stopping Vr support And hello games delivered and much more and thousands can agree on that and they have accomplished a lot in short time.

Oh but you can still play Horizons ...since when did I ask for your table scraps.

I suggest you look up how the games are funded. Its not that simple. And the only time content releases has slowed down has been in the last year and a half and we know is down to the fact that they are releasing a new expansion. Actual development has not stopped from what I can gather see. ED has its own separate dev team, which has gotten larger since launch. So its not like their not developing.

I'm a VR player too, but betrayal is too strong a word. Am I disappointed, sure, but im not totally surprised either. Personally I would prefer if they did a full VR control scheme update, I would even pay for it if that is necessary.

Tough luck at the moment.

I have it, and no thanks. God awful game.

VR isn't supported in Odyssey but there was no mentioning of dropping VR in the base game.

VR in ships is so good and the reason i bought a CV2. I haven’t upgraded since but i definitely will if odyssey supports VR in whole or more likely in part. The game is incredible in vr and i would swap readily between headset and hotas for flight and then monitor and keyboard for legs. This prob won’t go down well with some but i’d pay for vr support, it’s that good.

To be honest, if Half Life Alyx is anything to go by id be very unsteady walking in vr, id be likely to lose my balance or worse puke. Thats the reason Alyx allows it but has alternative methods of moving (great game by the way) but in short my brain gets confused because my legs arent moving. Hard to explain but some vr users will probably know what i mean.

VR works really well if you’re seated. I’ve dreamed of flying in vr through atmospherics, storms, rain, snow blizzards. If its gone for odyssey it’ll be tragic, and id be genuinely disappointed but i’d still play. The game would just be good rather than incredible.

Thought i’d share :)

Tough luck at the moment.

Not really tuff luck it's more the end of the road and time to move on to other space Vr games. And it is betrayal plain and simple cause we were told its Vr supported from the start.
It's what companies do, they use and abuse their power while gamers sit there and take it with fake promises.

Cause at the end of the day they realize 2d games are cheaper and easier to make . So welcome to Elite or eve or star citizen or whatever it is you want to call it but at end of the day it's not technically advanced and just another 2d experience.

Then move your legs. Not actually joking, it really helps with immersion (and reduces nausea in those susceptible to it) if you walk on the spot IRL whilst using joystick locomotion. (I actually just lift up one heel whilst keeping the ball of my foot planted then hit the floor with that heel and repeat with the other foot, in time with my footsteps in the game). This gives your inner ear a bit of a jiggle and reduces the mismatch between what you're seeing and what your inner ear is telling you is happening, and the fact that your legs are moving (if only a little) also helps sell the whole experience as real to your brain.

I’ll try it. Thanks 👍🏻

Oh god yeah I totally used to do that :D

It's funny the stuff you forget. (These days I can smooth turn like a cyberpunk ballet cyborg, but that first year was definitely a very bumpy learning curve ;))

ED still is VR supported. There is no betrayal. This is getting really silly.

At the end of the day it's just a computer game, act how you like and expect to be judged by it too.

The main issue for VR for legs is that they will likely have to completely redo how VR works in and out of the ship to get it to work with touch controllers and that would require a significant amount of work. At the moment, all the VR we have is a glorified head look. It was never an impressive implementation of VR, I just looked good.

Overwhelming majority don't use VR, devs priorities are different from your expectations.

Do you have numbers to support your assumption? Not saying that VR users are a majority, but there are alot more VR users around Elite due to the VR features, than Steam stats would ever lead you to believe.

Remember ED is (still to this day) sold on Oculus Store - people there dont buy to be flatscreening.

I don't mean to throw fuel on the fire but this was announced today

Hah yes I noticed as well. Might have a look.

Look, I understand your disappointment but you're not being realistic or fair about the issue. They couldn't keep the standard up in VR with the new update. The game is getting graphical improvements and legs. They can't get it to work at a high standard. Thank God they told us when they did. Some of you act like it's a piece of cake to just slap VR on the game. "Hello Games did it". Yes they did...they just slapped it on...it's crap....compared to ED VR atm. When PS4 players joined the community and began asking about VR....they were told by FDev AND players......the console can't handle it....sorry! Well, basically same thing here....they can't do it. Sorry!

You know what would be fair, realistic and respectful ? Frontier to stop hiding behind the curtain and tell is what the deal is instead of leading on Vr users. Either its gonna stay or it's not.

The game is getting a significant downgrade with the removal of VR support from their dev roadmap, sadly. You might well be 100% accurate that they just can't get it work at a high standard - I agree with you, and think you're right.

That's a clear admission of rank failure though, unfortunately. It's not like everything else runs perfectly either, so .. yeah....unless their 2D legs product is so awesome it outclasses everything else on the market, they'll probably be looking at mediocre reviews of outdated gameplay, dodgy instancing and comedy status as a dev after it. EA launch a VR product in October 2020. FDev pull VR from their flagship product's roadmap and compatibility in 2021?

People aren't comparing ED to NMS....they're comparing FDev to Hello in terms of capability and achievement, given difference in resourcing.

It's embarrassingly bad. I really hope they reconsider their priorities and invest in some additional capabilities to rescue this potential dumpster fire soon.

Look, everyone’s got sympathy for your situation, but if you get what you’re asking for here, all you will get is VR permanently discounted from ED:O.

That is literally the only thing that can come from what you’re demanding.

Surely that is not actually the outcome that you or anyone else really wants.
