In interviews with the sound developers at Frontier they have talked about being able to adjust the 'sound hud' in the future, as the vast majority of sound you hear in game is generated by the ship as feedback.

Well since there is little progression at the moment other than obtaining one of a few ships, which currently don't support much customization, plus the lack of exploration at the moment, there isn't a whole lot of reason to play the game other than timekilling, it will probably be a lot easier to play for long periods once the game is fleshed out.

I'm with you OP, I don't have the time and really not the desire anymore to go for the rarest of achievements. I'll have specific goals in-game to shoot for like getting into a Cobra but after that I plan to play at a casual pace, enjoying the journey as much as anything else, and dabbling in all of the different gameplay options.
